Hmmm... now that you mention it, I don't see any of the threads on mine, either, which would make me think that it might be a similar to-the-limit fit. Keep in mind that you DO have the screws in back to keep the tuner in place. Maybe it's doable with the small amount of thread you have to work with. Or maybe you could get away with no top nuts. Or maybe the top nuts you've got are wrong.

(PLEASE, kids! Let's keep it clean out there. I tried!)

No, it's not do-able with the little bit of threads that I have to work with. As I said, even if i don't use that washer (and then it would ruin the finish on the headstock) the threads would only grab, if I'm lucky, one turn.
The nuts are the ones that were with the tuners to begin with. I'm at a loss.

I did notice one thing. These are the same tuners that Geddy Lee has on his Rickenbackers. BUT, the ones HE has have a much longer (taller) post for the string winds.Perhaps then, the threads are farther up inside so the nut has a chance to turn a couple of times.
I wouldn't be to keen on having the nut barely at a turn and just using those screws on the back to hold it in place.
I see a problem there.
As I look at it, the only way these tuners would fit on the headstock properly would be to make the headstock thinner.
And I would not even think to do that.

See that's why I likes these... No clearance issues, no threads to worry about (Mark, I'm not touchin the 'nuts' statement...). Just wavy Grover madness. Maybe I'm one of the lucky ones, but I have never had a problem with them. And I think they look cool - but what do I know. :D

Thomas - Sounds like the set you have was just made for a thinner headstock. If you really want to pursue it, you may find another set with the longer posts that you can use. I got a set of Gold plated Wavey-Titans from eBay.
