Congratulations, Jim. Thanks for the review.....it helped remind me of that "first Rickenbacker" experience.
Looking forward to seeing your photos.

Yeah, the Kustom is mono. And you know, after playing the Rick through it, I really don't think I like it all that much.jps wrote:Only 4 hours? I guess you didn't like the guitar all that much, eh?![]()

Regarding the ROS, it sounds like you have a two channel mono amp, try using two separate amps next time, you may find a whole new sound.
You've guessed just right, John. I've been thinking for quite a long time of having two tube amps; say one a Vox and the other a Fender perhaps. Or, I could get the same two amps, and each have different speakers. Lots of variations to consider here. Fun and adventure ahead!

I like to go with the AC30 and Fender Twin combo when running two amps, especially for recording.

That's definitely a winning combination there Paul!paologregorio wrote:I like to go with the AC30 and Fender Twin combo when running two amps, especially for recording.
Jim, I'm surprised you don't like the sound of the Kustom. I have a similar head, and my 360/12VP sounds pretty good through it. I set the amp as flat as possible, then ROS in to the 2 channels. I flip the selector one way, adjust that channel for that pickup only, then do the same for the other. I then go to both pickups and fine tune the channels, not the 5th knob. When you adjust the 5th knob, you cut highs from the neck pickup, since it is just another volume control for the neck. The volume controls of the amp now work like the 5th in balancing the pickups, but without sacrificing highs on the neck. The amp is so clean and has such headroom, it's almost like going direct in to the PA if you set it flat. I run mine in to a 2x12 cab with Jensons in it and it's pretty darn good. Definitely don't have the bright switch engaged on your Janglebox.
You also might want to pony up for some toasters, especially for that Byrds sound. For me, they were the single most tone changing thing I have done to my 360/12, followed by TI Flats and the Janglebox. I know they are very pricey, but the upside is that if you don't like them(I'd bet money that you will, and I don't bet)you can turn right around and sell them for what you paid for them(or more).
Or, to give it to Paul again, you can't go wrong with either a Twin Reverb, a Vox AC30, or both. Also, you may want to keep an eye out for a Roland JC-120. Absolutely perfect match for a 360/12, and still relatively inexpensive used. I know Greg here uses a JC-77(a lot smaller)with his band Skaface, and has sang its praises for portability, tone, and reliability. Maybe an AC15,a JC-77, or a Fender Deluxe would be something to look in to.
Both the Twin and the Vox are boat anchors though, which I remember is something you didn't like about your Kustom. The AC30CC2 weighs over 70 lbs, the Twin can't be far behind.
Re: My Fingers Are So Sore....
Love the sound of the Vox AC30. Can't stand the idea of toting around a 70lb (31.75k) amp from gig to rehearsal to home. I think a the AC15 is more attractive in the weight department.
And the boat anchor thing is one of the difficulties I have with the Kustom.
I think I'll keep the hi-gains, at least for a while. Yes, I've borrowed a lot,....OK practically stolen really...much of McGuinn's picking. I really admire the
man's playing. I really don't want to be a carbon copy. I'd like for a couple of folks in the audience to say "Boy, you can sure tell he's been listening to a lot of Roger McGuinn."
"Yeah, but there's something he does differently. Can't quite put my finger on it, but it's just a little different."

Re: My Fingers Are So Sore....
I must just be used to it; I've been carrying Twins and AC30s around since I started playing.

Looks like he could even play Johnny Marr's dream (20-foot) guitar!!!!

Jim,
Getting onto this late but congratulations on your Ric. I'm glad it's all you hoped it would be.

To Dr. Tom:
Would like to hear the details of your PRS 12 string as they are pretty rare. How do you like yours? Would you recommend it to us Rick Nuts?
