Thanks Joey, now I'll have to start drawing on your expertise and refer to your website.
Kira, yes only four strings to confuse me, but it will still be a battle !!!!
Thanks CJ, you're right, fun is what it's all about.
Hi Ross, yes, I had a good chat to Bruce, he's a very helpful guy. I just hope the phone call doesn't cost more than the bass.
If you have it's sibling does that mean we're cousins or something now ???
Hi Jeffrey, thanks for that, but now you've got me worried.
Again I have to thank Joshua for such a detailed review, which gave me the confidence to make the purchase.

And it looks like I'll have to sharpen my reflexes too, cos when Wifey finds out what I've done, I'll be dodging pots, pans, cutlery, vases and probably the fridge !!!!

congrats, shane! you're going to love this bass! my cii is my favorite bass, ever. the neck reminds me of my american made bc rich eagle i had years ago,(but better) ,and the sound is definitely a modernized version of the classic rickbass tone. plus,it's just a thing of beauty,a work of wooden art really......yeah i like it!

I did the same compare, also at Wildwood. I've lived in the Denver area since 1985, but finally got there in recent months:

BTW, don't trust the Wildwood link I list, as today they are all out of the 4004Cii's. You won't see any. I should have saved the webpage or something so it would be frozen in time.

Go to the "Blowout" section on the "Electrics" page at Wildwood, and you will see a trans. blue scratch & dent 4004Cii. I played this bass when I picked up my MapleGlo 4004Cii 2 days ago (see pics of my one-of-a-kind 4004Cii MG on page 2 of the HMDYLYB? thread), and it sounds & plays great. The tiny dings are so small I had to really search to find them. Great price on this one - if I didn't just get mine, I'd grab it up. Btw, the Music Zoo has about ten 4004s in stock right now, in some great colors. Take a peek at their website.

Thanks woody, I don't have much experience with basses, but I figure it's a good place to start. And this FG looked beautiful, with some nicely figured maple. I just have to be patient while I wait to see it.
Hi David. Buying an instrument without laying hands on it can be risky but the reviews were a great help. Yes, I should have saved the webpage, but Bruce will arrange to send me the pics, so at least I have something to look at!!!
Thanks Iain, I'm keen to hear a 4004 in the flesh so to speak. You don't see many in Australia either.
Hi Richard, Nice TB. I didn't even notice the "Blowout" section !!! Your MG looks beautiful, very nicely figured. I've seen the 4004's on TMZ website, unfortunately as far as I could ascertain I had to pay the NY sales tax, which is not refundable and that made their prices uncompetitive. But I was keen on getting a FG, which they didn't have in stock.

Great review on the 4004 Joshua. As an owner of one, I know how good it is but for those who haven't yet indulged, an objective review/opinion is invaluable. As for "in stock" 4004s, POTR still has 2, Jet Glo and Mid Blue. I saw them with my own eyes last Friday.

Congrats Shane. The bass is the same low 4 strings on a guitar so the learning curve should be short.

Welcome to the low end!

Good review cass---How would you think a 4004 would handle slap? It seems like it would be great for blues with the lowend as you describe it. The neck pup seems less than ideally placed for slap n pop techniques--Did you try any?????
