The story begins innocently enough when on July 2nd I invite the Cabibe's up for the fourth of July. Not nearly enough notice for them to make it that far and they already had plans. As Janey is telling me this on the phone I suggest later in July... when in unison Tony and I blurt out that there is a YES concert in the area July 23. Within minutes Steve has ordered four tickets and the planning commences. (Later I notice that the Masterworks tour that I attened was also on July 23.. giving me a very good feeling about the concert.
Tony gets to add the next part about transportation.. there was a big hitch his daughter had college orientation the friday and saturday before the concert which made driving up very difficult for the two of them (oops make that three).
Tony gets to add the travel details stay tuned......

Well Tony certainly is a story teller isn't he... He skipped several parts. Some of which I will let him tell. He neglected to say that although we had "Gold Circle Seating" it was first come first serve.. so we waited in line in the heat for two hours. We were all worried about how we might offend each other on the way home, having no idea that we would all have a proper shower long before we got back to the car. There was really no where to go right by the Potomac River, the car was uphill, the best we could do was wait it out. Although it was only 2.5 songs it was the closest I had ever been to the stage and I enjoyed every shivering moment of it (with the exception of the lightening strikes) But standing next to Tony I was pretty sure I would be safe..you know what they say about it never strikes twice. Either way I was thrilled to see a YES concert with Tony. After all it was after emails from Chris about "Fish out of Water" that Tony and I started emailing. So a big Thank you to Mr. Squire! :D Now back to the story and what a story it is. Tony can fill in the next part.....

It all started about two years ago when Tony and I both wanted the autographed copy of "Fish out of Water" here is how brilliant I am I could not figure out how to get it signed "Tammy you owe me a beer (or whatever beverage Chris prefers) Which I lamented to Tony in several emails. Tony had written some cool stuff which he shared with me. Either way mine came signed Love, Chris which was still very exciting. Any way Tony and I recieved our confirmation emails about the same time and were so excited that we continued emailing. When the CD's arrived we sent emails. Back and forth the emails flew until a friendship had been cemented. I can recall the day that I recieved the email from Chris.. Fourth of July I had a house full of guests and kept running back and forth to to the computer checking emails.. I am the best hostess ever!!! NOT! Any way that is how Tony and I started chatting. And Chris had never met either of us but he sort of introduced us..in a roundabout way... pardon the pun.

The more I read and see about him, the more I agree. He's got a permanent invite here in Algonac for dinner and a run through the malt collection (or whatever else he prefers to drink while talking). Good to see someone at his level of stardom is genuine.

Brian & John, you couldn't be more correct. Chris is a genuine person who really cares about his fans and his friends. I have great admiration for him and his family for their ability to hold it all together. I think most Yes fans don't really know how hard Chris works to keep it all together and it really breaks his heart when things like outdoor shows get rained out or tour plans fall through... to this day he loves to perform and entertain his audience. There is no "illusion of the first take" for Chris. It is, as John stated, genuine.

I hate it when I read things like "They're just in it for the money" because, first of all, if it's their business, then of course they are (who isn't? We all have to eat). But when Chris plugs in his Ric and switches on the amps, it is all about the show and the fans. My guess is he'll be doing it until someone or something forces him to stop!

Tammy, we have a similar story, because it was back in 2006 when Chris Clayton called me to say that he knew someone that might be selling a V63 and gave me Tony's email. Within five minutes, Tony and I established a friendship over our mutual fondness of Yes music and all things Squire. Tony didn't sell me his V, but he did locate another one for me, which also introduced me to this forum. All of that is what eventually led to the day when Chris and Scotty came a 'calling! The rest is history and what a story it has been! 8)

Jim I agree totally about Chris' desire to preform for the audience. At both shows that were called for rain/weather it was Chris who encouraged everyone to do at least one more song. You could see the distress on his face when the second show was called. I felt bad because you could tell he disagreed with the decision, at least to call it that earlym(the second show). I have read some of the reviews for the National Harbor concert and they were less than kind. It upset me greatly, posters were suggesting a "do-over" as if it would have been no problem to re-use the venue, set up the equiptment, arrange all the behind the scenes things that we have no clue about (or at least I don't). At the Yes show many of the audience members were chanting "WE WANT YES" in the pouring rain. I wanted to say to them "are you nuts?" At the very least all of the instruments would have been ruined and that is the best case scenerio. Would I go to another outdoor concert to see YES... absolutely. They have about as much control over the weather as I do.. had the rain held off we would have heard how magical it sounded with the open sky over the Potomac River.. instead I have an unbelieveable summer concert story.

We all know water and electricity don't mix well and lighting and the human body don't mix well... I have seen shows delayed or missed by power outages, cars breaking down, being sick with the flu.... things just happen sometimes. With the possibility of someone getting hurt - you just don't mess around. A good call in my opinion - regrettable but good.
