Yeah, those 428's were almost ridiculous. A friend of mine back in high school had a Shelby GT500 with the 428 Super Cobra Jet engine. He put a pair of Holley 1250 dual pumpers on top of it and WOW! Of course, you could almost watch the gas gauge move when you stomped on it. He used to do some drag racing at the track, had some kind of racing tranny too. I don't really remember what his 1/4 mile time was, 11.7 seconds and 157mph comes to mind, but that was 35 or so years ago.
It was kind of fun to be at a stop light and have someone pull up and want to race. Pat never raced that way, he'd say, "Lets get on the freeway, side by side at 70 and start from there". Once in position, he'd punch it, break the tires loose and burn rubber for a few second. Pretty much everyone would back down at that point for some reason...
