I'm kinda thinking a 4004Cii fretless would be pretty cool. I might have to get Paul W. to make a new fretboard to get one though...

Well, you could just put strips of wood in the fret slots, and have lines like Jaco did. No shame in that.

Nah, it just wouldn't look right. A nice clear rosewood board (yeah, ebony would be even better) just can't be beat...

Well, I'd look into cocobolo, pau ferro, and bubinga before you went straight to standard Indian rosewood. Played a wonderful Conklin fretless with a cocobolo board once... pau ferro is the celebrated stuff used on fretless Stingrays... and of course we know plenty about bubinga.

I said rosewood, but in the RIC sense, meaning bubinga. I'd really like to have a fretless twin to my Mapleglo 4004...

I forget that it means different things to different people. In Fender/Gibson/everything else circles, it almost always means Indian rosewood.
