But me love 4003s as well. My 4003FL and both 4003s are INCREDIBLE, just in a different way from a 4002. Maybe I could part with one of the 4003s... not both.

That's what sucks... the freakin' vintage status of this thing. But a 4002 is worth every penny, really. ##$^@&%$*!!!

I don't have a big music budget like some people, and if I had >$4000 to spend I'd definitely give it to a boutique dealer like Conklin rather than a vintage bass that is super inflated. The 4002 may be the ONLY exception to that rule, magnificent beast that it is.

I believe that a deal is in place ... very excited about this one. Hopefully way more to come soon!

Anyone want to buy a '64 p or jazz? Or a 4004? Or my Jan '73 4001? Ha.

Yeah, my salary isn't very much as a doctoral student. :( Then again I'm not paying tuition... It beats being the chemistry lab technician for $8.50 an hour, too, and it REALLY beats being a CPhT at Walgreens! Ugh... they don't pay those poor souls enough. At least I've gotten out of that madness.

Well, maybe in 4-5 years I can afford a 4002. But by then they'll cost twice as much right?

If it helps, I was a doctoral student a mere 5 years ago.

Yeah, being a doctoral student is a pain, but you'll get through it! And it'll be worth it, believe me...

Unfortunately yeah.

I hear ya on student salary - my daughter and her fiancee are both doctoral students on research salaries with free tuition but there is not a lot of wiggle room with their finances. That's what prompted my tease.
