Les Paul will live forever in the guitars that feature his name.
RIP to a true legend.
I hope Gibson has the class to not try and cash in on this somehow with some cheesey marketing stunt.

Thanks to Dave Pascoe, a few of us from the forum got to see Les Paul perform live this past November. It was a great show. His mind was sharp with a great sense of humor and he could still play well.
RIP Les, thanks for all your contributions to music.
I'm also indebted to Dave Pascoe for arranging the visit to NYC to see Les Paul. I agree with all of your comments, Joey, particularly around Les' sense of humour.
I fondly remember convincing the waitress to smuggle a pickguard backstage to obtain Les' autograph, for my young son in Australia....named "DAVE"!

Don't worry----they will. I'm 99.999% sure of it. If there is a buck to be squeezed out, Gibson will find it.
(maybe they'll reissue relic versions of "the log"

)

Just out of curiosity...
I'm aware of Les' contract with Gibson and that he was not allowed to be photographed with any other brand of guitar. I also know he did not like the SG, and didn't want his name on it (although there's more to that I am sure). That said, I'm wondering if he ever made any comments about Fender or Rickenbacker guitars....It would be hard to believe that even though he was so attached to Gibson, that he never had his hands on these others.

Les owned one of the cleanest black-guards I've ever seen. I know he and Leo used to chat, as well. As for Rickenbackers....dunno.

What an incredible life he led.
As a musician and innovator his contribution to music is unequalled.
RIP Les.

My favorite photo of Les Paul...not intended in any way to be in bad taste...but what a spirit!

My dad loved him. He certainly lived his dream. Hope the tones are great where you are...

I heard about his passing during our newscasts. We did 3 nice stories on him and his connections with Gibson and Heritage. They interviewed the principles at Heritage and it again pointed to Les's spirit and humor.
His contributions to recording, instruments, and performing will be his legacy. Noel, thanks for the two OTR clips - what tone he got out of his instrument!
RIP LP.

I highly recommend the DVD "Les Paul - Chasing Sound". It can be purchased from Amazon and many other outlets.
I've watched it more than once, and it made me really appreciate all of the great things he did with his musicianship, recording techniques, and guitar building.
I think his mother lived to be over 100, but don't quote me on that. I need to look around a bit more to confirm that.

Maybe some won't like this, I'm not a guitar player, but the sexiest and best looking guitar I've ever seen, was built by him, and what a tone it has!
RIP Les Paul, Rock music owes you A LOT! I believe you'll trascend for ever.

Personally, guitar-wise, I am a Les Paul guy. I've had quite a few in my day and loved them all. That hunk o' wood makes the sound of rock & roll.

Hmm. I am going to speculate that Les Paul was just adjusting his glasses in that pic................if anyone says otherwise the pic may have to be removed.
