It makes more sense to me to have the bass on the bottom...and I kind of like the looks, nice and shiny.

I'm glad someone appreciates this instrument. Picking up on John's Tommy James/John Slog reference, It took me 30 minutes to find the photo! It is the only doubleneck made by Rickenbacker in the 1960s -- as far as I know.
