2007 - it's a GC guitar, so it had been hanging on a wall for awhile and has a bit of play wear, but I don't mind it. Natural relicing! And I got a heck of a deal.

I've got to add to the chorus of Fender Bass VI enthusiasts! Those old ones with the metal pickup surrounds are very rare, and that color is just lovely. I have a far more ordinary sunburst later one, but it is absolutely essential to what I do when recording bands. Often it is the perfect "color" instrument, and it never fails for: adding "tic tac" bass bits, as a mysterious fuzz + reverb lead line, putting in a bit of "western" kitsch twang, generating some heavy surf mojo, or... whatever. These instruments love effects of all types. You can definitely get plenty of low end out of it, you just have to think of it a little differently and play accordingly. I recently came across a track I did which I thought was the Bass VI + a regular bass, but upon listening to the individual tracks it turned out to be only the Bass VI. There were big reverby chords on the downbeats, with a vibrato bar drop, followed by palm-muted 8th notes which were plenty deep. Very nice sounding, and this reminds me to point out how great it is with the vibrato bar in action! This feature probably seems ridiculous on a bass, but it's actually terrific. If the arm is missing, it's the same as on a Jazzmaster. And, if you decide you don't need this one, you know who to call... I've been seriously considering an all-Bass VI rock combo- I think that may be the way forward. I'm only sort of joking.

Hey Jonathan,

New old stuff? If you had to dump a bunch of stuff for this, it must be...can it be?

Nice! That looks like Keith Richards' '59 LP Standard...

But then again, I'm sure plenty of LP's were made with Bigsby's. Is it factory?

I don't know if its factory, but the Bigsby is from the late 50s/early 60s, which is more than I can say for the one in the modern KR LP pic. :)
Some LPs with factory Bigsbys were drilled for studs, some weren't . This doesn't have the pearl covers over the stud holes, but many people removed these and put a stop tail on when Bigsbys weren't in vogue.

'58 or '59?

I see the neck pickup is backwards (?)

I found a pic of a replica of Jack Bruce's Bass VI.

Man! Great new additions, JB!!

Seems like when "it rains, it pours," eh? I've noticed the same---they always seem to fall in 3's or 4's at a time, then a dry spell.

Jonathan, very nice LP (even if it isn't a real 'Burst !), what's the story on it? I love a bigsby on an LP.

It looks like a more "lemon drop" version of my own Lester:
