That could be the first S I have seen with Grovers...

Yup, great looking bass, really nice wood, and for that $$ who cares about the odd hardware issue. It will play like a dream and sound wonderful regardless.

Also, they're the straight Grovers rather than the ones with wavy keys. And yes the bridge pickup isn't green or have the aluminum base plate - it looks like it might be a later 70's pickup.
Sorry Andy, but I actually found this last week when I was in your neck of the woods, (I feel like a poacher! :lol: ). Too bad we couldn't meet up when I was up around St. Pete's. I'll PM you the next time I'm down there.

steve...if your rear pickup has a plastic base, then you would have the large post '73 rubber magnet. hey, i've got '73 pickups in my '64 and they work just fine. congrats on scoring the bass !

interesting, Steve - my '69 4000/1 shares the same issue w/ a gap like that, with the original tailpiece.

it was formerly owned by Kevin, as referenced in this post.

Strange that the original tailpiece doesn't fully cover the route on your 4001 Bryce... have you ever unscrewed the tailpiece to see if it can be positioned in such a way that the route is fully covered?
I actually stumbled on the 4001S in a Sam Ash while I was in Flordia last week.
