+100 on that !!!! :D
Keep those cards and letters coming folks -- this is one of the best humor threads on the RRF and it is great reading.

Notice how many folks are just trying to bump their postings-count with added controversy and throwing more gasoline on the "fire"   !!!

[By the way -- note to Admin: when I went to shade the color on the "+100" above, I noticed that the color chart selection does not include anything remotely close to Fire Glo or Clown-Glo or Amber FireGlo or Montezuma Brown, etc. etc. etc. ]

steverok wrote:Hello fellow Ric enthusiasts,

The time has come for me to address an issue that has been eating away at me for some time. It involves the evolution of the FireGlo finish, and the sometimes boorish and insensitive attitude with which some people seem to approach this very sensitive topic. You see, most of us have a FireGlo guitar or bass, and, as we know, the shade of the FireGlo finish varies all over the place, from era to era, year to year, and instrument to instrument. However, there are some people who post all of these lurid and seductive photos of their “amazing” FireGlo, or their “new” FireGlo, or their “90s FireGlo”, which makes some of us people, who just have “regular” FireGlo, or “clown” FireGlo, or “pinky” FireGlo, feel bad. The only way to fight back is to point out that all FireGlo’s have pink, by definition, or that our manhood is not on the line in regard to our specific brand of FireGlo, or that JetGlo is cooler, etc. For example, I have a 360-12FG from 2005, which certainly has a pink characteristic, but not much more than most of the FireGlo’s I’ve seen, and the finish itself is a bit of a “lollipop” FireGlo. This guitar, however, is set up perfectly, the sound has warmed up and broken in, appearing, now, on many of my recorded songs, and shown up at live performances as well, where it was oogled and marvelled at by many an audience member. However, in spite of all that, I have developed a bit of “FireGlo envy”, because I read this darned forum ! An instrument which has brought joy to my life is now occasionally subjected to an undeserved scrutiny, which undeniably coincides with the times that I read RRF. I would, therefore, like to add some definitions and terms to the RRF vernacular, which will help promote a more PC attitude in regard to FireGlo. Besides, I am pushing toward 1,000 posts, and I figure, no better way to get there than to ignite a firestorm of controversy. So, without further ado, here we go :

(1) “FireGlo Sensitivity” : A general concern/regard for others regarding FireGlo
(2) “FireGlo Envy” : Jealousy over the FireGlo of others
(3) “FireGlo Remorse” : Suffering and/or belaboring over one’s own FireGlo
(4) “FireGlo Snobbery” : A boorish, blatant, and unabashed arrogance regarding FireGlo
(5) “FireGlo Grandstanding” : Bragging and ostentatious behavior regarding FireGlo
(6) “FireGlo Callousness” : Lack of FireGlo Sensitivity
(7) “FireGlo Blinders” : Obsessing so much over the shade of FireGlo, to the point where tone, set-up, and actually knowing how to play guitar are either secondary or irrelevant.
(8) “FireGlo Tryanny” : Similar to “FireGlo Snobbery” and “FireGlo Grandstanding”, except FireGlo tyrannists try to buy up only and all of the best FireGlo’s, and show lots of pictures of them, claiming to be the world’s living expert on FireGlo, and mocking all others.

I welcome additional suggestions, but we need ones that really “stick”.

Cheers !

Fire-GloPhobia (Fear of rubbish fireglo)

Steve, I'll take your Fire-GloPhobia and raise you one.

I don't think that any member on this forum, that has more Rickenbackers than me (3!), should be allowed to mention any more than 3 guitars in their collection.
I look at my 3 beauties lying on the bed, and I feel privileged to be in a position where I can afford to have such wonderful guitars.
Then I come onto this forum and see you all boasting how you've got a Diamond-Glo 7 string Superbacker, and how you haven't even opened the case of it yet because you've got 20 other rare and wonderful Rickenbackers that have just arrived this morning.
And I then look at my standard Jetglo 360/12, lying there with it's plain white TRC, pickguards and standard knobs, and shout at it, "Damn you! Why aren't you a 360V64?!"

So yes, it's a positive diagnosis.

I have.... SmallPlainRickenbackerCollectionGlo-Phobia!

We also need one to describe someone who's always sneaking in a picture of their FG, you know, the old "you mean like THIS ONE ??" routine.

I'll call that :

(9) "FireGlo Intrusion" : The act of always trampling on another's thread with a picture of THEIR FireGlo. This is equivalent to the old game of "one-up-manship". This is really just an example of "FireGlo Grandstanding" or "FireGlo Callousness".
