There would be but it would be about 1/2" or more to the wood. The Hipshot has a very large footprint so I don't think it matters much. I didn't worry about it when I tried one.

Does anyone have a link to a thread regarding straightening a 4003 tailpiece? I thought I saw it not too long ago. I'd like to straighten and perhaps try the coin trick.

Tried yesterday the two coins trick, i used very little and thin coins, just because i was afraid to ruin the wood under the tailpiece.
I noticed no improvement / no difference at all, maybe i should use thicker coins. What is the suggested coin / washer thickness ?

just try slightly thicker coins, and increase as you go along

also, size it up by close inspection by eye, and you will see the bridge start to sit slightly above the wood.....then the coins are just right/too big


and, as you tighten the screws, you should "feel" some resistance, meaning the coins are making contact


Im gonna try it this weekend, will report my findings!

I found this photo (not mine) to be all I needed:

And I've found washers under the tail to make no tonal difference. Maybe they will help to keep the tail from lifting though.
