I really do like it... I just need to find a good "Drive" setting, I think diming it is probably quite excessive but I haven't settled on whether to lead "conservative" or "liberal" with the final setting. It all comes down to your ears and what you want to sound like. I run mine about half on the drive, as I don't have any string that stands out. I use it to smooth my ham-fisted playing.

I set the drive depending on what I wanted form a particular bass/song. The demo songs on The KARMA Kings website had the LEDS averaging around the -12-14dB range to get a nice even punchy sound.

BTW, listen to the demos with good headphones.

Those demos are nice Jeff. I'd say I run the compression at nearly the same level lately, just a hair less perhaps but it's difficult to really say.

The "Drive" knob--is it only affecting the threshold of compression, or is it also setting the ratio? Or is the ratio set by the photocells?

The ratio is affected by how much the optical cell is driven so it is program dependent.

It really depends on the gig or application. I have tons of efx, and all of them do different things, and sound different through different amps. I have many OD/Distortion type boxes that if you just hear them direct, or through speaker simulation, sound quite similar. When those same pedals are put through amps-both tube, solid state, or even modeled, can sound drastically different. Then, you factor in the differences in instruments, the rules can all go out the window.
So, because of all of these variables, I've always got my ear out for a new pedal.
I'm not so big on the super outerspace, all efx on type of sound, but do like to use them occasionally for enhancing a song.
