Was he using his combo signature rig (and did you like it)? No tweeter concerns me ever so slightly.

nice pick jeff! clearly demonstrating mr berlin's right hand positioning over the bridge pickup....i am also with jeff b in that i have never cared for the sound of tweeters in bass cabinets....just turn up the treble if you need to and get it from the speakers.....

edit-josh could your tweete possibly be what is causing your concern for excessive zing?

You seriously don't use any tweeter in your live sound? I use mine with heavy attenuation, but I still use it--woofers just don't give you the full range of tones by themselves, or at least not in my experience. But I'm no Jeff Berlin.

John, the song is not really anything close to finished or even really a full song yet. Don't worry about that--I just needed some tones to show you guys (and believe it or not but it was actually rearranged a couple of nights ago at practice, but it's still far from done). Whenever it's a full-fledged song, if ever, it'll probably make its way to the Recordings forum for a different kind of eval.

No tweeters in sight on any of my bass gear.

Hm. It's so weird how I go through these phases. I used to say tweeters were the devil, now I call them a necessary evil, and now you're starting to make me think maybe they're really the devil after all.

Maybe I'm just impressionable. I'd better stop reading all of those bumper stickers.

Tweeters and horns and anything else that starts at like 4KHz and up are passé these days unless you are Marcus Miller.

Really, a lot of cabinet builders, like LDS, Bergantino, etc. have many designs that utilize a mid/high driver but no tweeter, like the 6 1/2" driver in my LDS 286, for example, that have more highs than a normal human needs for bass. Do a search on the Talkbass site for fEarful speakers, it is a design that specifically uses a low frequency and a mid/high driver, although there is also a version with a horn, in needed to call all the dogs in the neighborhood to your gig.

If I had a speaker cab that had a mid/high driver, I would probably like it. I hate the tweeters/horns. I play basses, not trebles.
