Those are nice basses. I think I'll be bugging you to bring it to the next gtg.

A Charvel Surfcaster
Re: If not a Rick...
If not a RIC, I like either a true single coil Precision bass (like the Telecaster bass) because it is punchy and raw flat out, or one of the two basses I made with Rickenbacker pickups.
Re: If not a Rick...
Well for me even with Ric's in the world, I have a 1976 Gibson Ripper that I love and play the hell out of, but if not for the Ripper, it would definitly be a Precision and or jazz bass...........

Is this the model where you can move the pickup position?plasticman_88 wrote:An Ovation Magnum.
That ought to be a Ric option!

My '75-'76 P'Bass, and '78 Jazz Bass(with Block inlays) would suit me just fine...if Rickenbacker basses didn't exist!!!!!

No - the big metal frame is a thumb-rest and cosmetic feature. The later Magnums (III and IV) have a more conventional body shape and no metal frame.rikk wrote:Is this the model where you can move the pickup position?plasticman_88 wrote:An Ovation Magnum.

On looks alone (haven't played one through an amp) I like the Epi Jack Cassady.
Re: If not a Rick...
I haven't played around with many brands but I dig my fretless fender jazz. I wouldn't mind having another couple good jazzes.

Nah... Jamerson was a Precision man like us!walker wrote:J-Bass. Never liked the body design. Sound-wise, James Jamerson ... got some great sounds from it
I agree that Jazzes can sound generic sometimes. I would call sometimes even call them "thin"-sounding. That's another reason I sold mine (I was constantly getting drowned out), but I have plenty of respect for folks who stand by the Jazz and do solid work with it.
You know who knows how to make a Jazz Bass sound like it should? Ed Friedland. He rocks.

Re: If not a Rick...
Joshua, you yourself recommended the Audere to me and my Jazz sounds deep, growly and crisp. At my last show, several bass players commented that they couldn't believe I could get those sounds from a Jazz bass, let alone a fretless.
Can we have everything louder than everything else?
