Hi Steve.....Yep....the pix with Burton and James Kirkland on the bass is one of the pix i have....there must have been hundreds of copies handed out.
its a well known picture.
You can really see where the middle pup used to be.
The only time I have heard him live was at a joint on the corner of Century Blvd and Hawthorne Blvd in Los Angeles....must have been about 65'.
I was in the restraunt part of the place eating dinner with some friends when I heard some unbelieveable licks coming out of the bar......
I thought to myself......naaaaaa....couldnt be....
It was.
He was playing a Tele.

I used to have a '72 Jetglo 381 with Hi-Gain pickups. The short clip on this thread is pretty indicative of what mine sounded like--rather midrangey, not much twang or brightness, and not much sustain either. I replaced the Hi-Gains with toasters, which helped to alleviate some of the mid emphasis, but I never could get much characteristic Ric jangle or twang out of it--it always sounded like it wanted to be a Gibson. It was a beautiful-looking guitar, but I could never get it to sound right, so I got rid of it. I played a reissue back in the late '90's, not long after I got rid of my '72, that sounded a lot better.
