Thanks for all the information John!

I really appreciate the time and effort you put into your posts.

I've been wondering about the Wishbass for a while now.

Admittedly, yours has a more traditional look compared to the other basses they make.

Seems I'd be in the $500.00 range if I were to go that way.

Early next week, I'm going to mess with the strings on the Peavey. IF I can't get the tone I'm looking for, I'm going to have to do SOMETHING before December, although I'm really not sure how to go just yet. I really don't want to remove the black tape wound strings on the RIC fretless, but I may have to take that route and just re-install them later on.

I also have some odds and ends I want to sell on Ebay and save the coin for a new fretless. I'm STILL considering a Warwick Corvette too. :?

NOPE! Never even seen one.

I ASSUME by your post guys, that they are tree trunks?

My part of Florida is a bass wasteland! PLENTY of places to try out guitars....only a Guitar Center and a mom & pop that only carries Fender products within a 75 mile drive. I have to spend about a 2 hr ride to Orlando if I want try anything out....and that isn't likely these days. However, next year I may have better luck!

The Warwick Corvette FL is a fantastic bass. The neck on mine feels as slim as my '73 4001FL. It does have a bit of a Fender Jazz thing going on though - in terms of being quite narrow at the nut and getting wider at the octave.

But it is a lighting fast/slim neck.

I would try a 'Wick before you buy, as they often sound great but many don't like how they feel. I borrowed one for a gig once and my hand was cramping in the middle of fast runs--that was no good. It was a Streamer Stage II or something... IIRC.

In my experience Corvette necks are the most tolerable of the lot.

Cramping is generally the result of too small a neck. I hear a lot of love for slim necks around here and I don't really understand it. By far the most comfortable neck I have on an electric is my WIshbass, and it's basically that of an upright. The only complaint I have with the Warwick is that the neck is too small.

With you on Sentence #2--although I think profile is a big factor and the Ric *profile* doesn't change much even though the size may... The other thing about that 'Wick was it was profiled into a shape like an offset triangle. It put a lot of pressure in the palm of my hand instead of evenly distributing it. Ric profiles are so nice and C/D-shaped... Also, I think a "slim" Ric is really not slim when compared to a slim Fender (Jazz), etc. My hand used to cramp on my Jazz Bass all the time. I'm happiest with a good Ric or Precision neck.

Knowing how you like a neck to feel, I doubt these are basses are a good choice for you.

UGH!

Joey & JEff, you guys and the Avatar's! WHO IS THAT UGLY DUDE?
Although, to get it right, it HAVE read "Jetglo S***S"! LOL

John & Joshua, you are 100% correct with the TOO THIN neck factor. I DO love a thin neck, but due to physical limitations, they are must for me. My FAVORITE necks were my 74 4001 and then the 71 4001....both are sadly gone :( . I hate to admit it, but I miss the 74 neck MORE than the 71! THAT was the perfect neck for me....well, not counting Wints' Gibb bass. That being said, my V63 has the best neck in my small heard these days, followed by the 78 4001 ATG.

I have a Washburn knock around bass that makes a Jazz neck feel HUGE. It really is T H I N! And about half way through the first set of songs, I start cramping up. On the other extreme, my 4004cii is the largest neck of all my basses. I use it for the slower sets of music we play. I just can't get any real speed on that neck. I love the bass, and it has actually has made me less picky about neck size, but I still prefer the smaller sized necks. I have strength issue in my left arm that isn't going to improve. SO, a thinner neck is something I need if I want to play anything with any kind of speed in it. For example, I can't play the YES song, Sound Chaser on my 4004cii, but can with my V63.

ANYWAY, back to the fretless situation. I have another option...I have a Peavey Dyna Unity, passive/active, neck through, ebony neck that would probably make a damn good fretless bass. So, that may be an option too. That would run about $300.00 to convert to fretless. My luthier does such beautiful work, and the price is right too. I LOVE Ebony fingerboards, and especially for fretless.

Back to the Warwick. I HEAR so much about them, I'd just love to try one out. I bought RICS sight unseen because I basically KNEW what I was getting. I was familiar enough with them...but any other bass, I 'm just not so sure. I like the Wishbass idea too, but again....to spend about $600.00 with the options I'd like....I'm just not too sure. I'd like to do this with the least expense possible.

I'm off to mess with the T40 and the RIC...string change day!

Thanks to all, I REALLY appreciate the help....and I'll keep you posted!
