Well I can't hear a Rickenbacker, I wonder if I can see one. Great fun.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

It's clear that Variax' attempt at a Rick 12 has assumingly failed, although it's my personal opinion that their sound is closer to a Rick's than the Fender's. (should be, as these are probably sampled Rick sounds)
Which makes me think that a lot of people listened to the soundclips through bad speakers or bad headphones.
...Or have sustained ear damage in the higher regions (these capabilities decline with age also off course) because the Fender has that typical sound with very 'crisp' highs, but what's underneath is pretty much alike.

It sounds unbelievable, and IMO excels in every pickup position except the one I used on that recording (comparable to a .0047 choked Rick). It is lush beyond compare.

I'd like to blame my speakers... ..

but being the ONLY 1 that voted for #1 out 32 votes.. ..means just one thing:

I'm at a disadavantage.. I NEED to get a RIC 12 string.. so I can get more familiar with them! ( can your hear the rationalization gears spinning! )

I could sell you mine, but I'd have to give you a discount after having seen Motorhead in concert a couple a times

Clip 1 had a bit of digital "warble" to it, so I figured it was the Variax. Clips 2 and 3 were similar sonically, but Rickenbackers seem to have a quicker decay, so that lead me to choose Clip 2 as the "real Ric".
Nice playing John!

Fenders twang...Rics jangle. That's my theory.

Oh that's what did my ears in..........rock'n out with Motorhead. Never mind Craig I think I will keep mine after all. I just need to get them retuned.

Jake, I think you would reconsider that "theory" if you listened to the clips! IMO the Fender does not sound twangy at all. It is an incredibly lush sounding 12-string.

Man I am losing it. I am ashamed to say I had no idea. I kind of thought the Fender was #3, but really didn't know. Now I can do some comparisons of my own since I... ah never mind
