I have all of my Ricks except for my very first Rick bass. I still have the receipt for it (slighlty used, closet classic bought through the Recycler), but when I dug out the receipt, it lacked the bass's serial number, so while I know it was a '79 JG 4001, I have no idea what became of it. I traded it to a friend, who traded it, plus cash for a Fender Performer bassback in the late 80s. Nuts!

After the Scott Pilgrim movie came out I know a lot of people who want "that guitar"
My friend and I were like "OMG It's a rick!!" haha
Several people at my school have them, and they show them off and are like "yeah I own a rick" and I have talked to both the guys i'm friends with about the truss rods and what they think of the bridge. Neither of them had any idea what I was talking about.
So I get to obsess over them and rich spoiled kids get them as gifts after saying they look cool. Great

Brock, welcome to the RRF. Start saving your money and making it at any odd job you can get. Before you know it you'll have enough to buy one of those Ricks off the spoiled rich kids when they get bored and move on to the next thrill. In my experience, much sooner than later, and I'd guess they don't have a clue to the real value and you'd get it pretty cheap.

Thanks for the welcome

I've already learned a ton after looking through threads for a couple hours haha
And i've been workin pretty dang hard an have a bit saved up. But they won't be selling anytime soon, because the one who bought it, I learned about an hour ago, has had it stolen because after showing it off and bragging how much it cost, he left it un attended and some one stole it. I feel bad for the guy, he was pretty cool, just kinda smug when it came to instruments. We already called the police and security at school, hopefully it was on a security camera.
The other guy apparently inherited his early 70's 4001 from his uncle. Along with a very very nice upright bass (I play upright as well) and a gibson ripper. So that's got a lot of sentimental value to him.
I think I found a good deal on a new one, through various pricematching stuff it got lower than i've seen a new one go for. So as long as I can get a midnight blue i'll be set.

Brock, if you can get the serial number and a pic or two from the guy, register it on the RIckenbacker Registry (link at top right of pages) as stolen. We've already aided in recovering a couple stolen basses.

I'll have to ask him for the serial number next time I talk to him. I hope he gets it back. He says thanks, and he's planning on joining very soon.

A Fender Performer. Now that brings back memories. But so does the Fender Coronado.

... I just got my first Rick yesterday. Does 26 qualify as "kid" or am I already a "young adult"?
