With previous correspondence and also a thread here, I believe John's problem is soft maple at the body end and the acorn nut/washer pulling into the neck. The more he tightened, it would be straight for a day or so then have the slight bow again and the rod is really showing past the truss nut.

It's neck was rock solid in the 27 years before the conversion, and remains rock solid in the 3 years since the conversion.

I hope the same will apply to my bass, been converted the same way by Paul W.

Though, I have to get it back first and string it with some challenging set.
