If you can only have one, I'd say that one is a great one to have!
Three one's in a single sentence; not bad.

Rudy Sarzo played with Whitesnake, Quiet Riot, Ozzy Osbourne, Blue Öyster Cult and a number of other fairly high profile bands. He's a great bass player IMO.

I was never into any of those bands. I've heard of them, but never paid much attention to their music. Hey I didn't know who Lemmy was until learning about the bass made by RIC. Just not my kind of music.
That's what I get for limiting my listening pleasure to the Beatles, Bach, Beethoven, and Mozart. Oh yea, and Zeppelin.
Sheltered existence I suppose.
Anyone here learn how to play Mozart's Eine kleine Nachtmusik (K.525) on the bass! I play it in the same key as Come Together. Makes for a wild transition.

BTW, a forum member has one of those two 4001 basses in his collection.

Not to hijack this thread, but, Jeff-----I LOVE Rennaisance!!!!! "A Trip to The Fair" is one of my favorites!!!!!!!!
I just saw them perform recently in Penn. They were fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Back to the thread.
I would LOVE to have a 4001CS. But, having to play lefty, I know I'll NEVER find one
I DO however, have a nice '91 4001V63LH, and that is good enough for me

Just take your V63 and do a "Squire" paint job on it. That's essentially what Chris did. You can just skip the flowered wallpaper and go straight to the Bananna-Glo. The color alone is half the vibe.

Yes indeed. Fantastic band. You were fortunate to meet Annie and Jon.
I should have also included early Genesis (when Peter Gabriel was with the band), and Emerson, Lake, & Palmer.
Love this (Genesis - The Musical Box , Belgian TV - Six Hours Live) :

Genesis was years ahead of anyone else back then.
Their album, "The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway" was like Sgt. Pepper to me. Unbelievable!
And here's our beloved Ric in action (Genesis - The Fountain of Salmacis):

Yea, back in the day when music was well thought out and gimmickry wasn't what sold albums (excuse me, CDs).

I saw Genesis many times, from their first US tour in early '72 (Foxtrot), up through the
Wind And Wuthering tour., Met and spent some quality time with them, too.

You had to be there.

We were all blown away the first time seeing Genesis as,
in the beginning
, the darkened stage started to light up to the black lights and all you saw was silhouetted bat wings and a florescent butterfly in between them against a sea of blue.

That's what I did with my '82 4001S, along with new pickups to boot...

There ya go Jim. Most of the "Squire impact" for half the price. I'd really like to see this done with a V63. Squire's original bass had a rosewood fretboard and walnut wings, and other than the color, also sports a once cracked and now modified pickguard. I'd like to see a truely faithful recreation of his bass.

I asked Rudy about this bass; he seemed surprised that it ended up in Illinois. He said he sold it to a mortuary owner in Louisiana.
