Hey Joshua i acquired my f.g. 2010 4003 back in feb. It needed just a tweak of a setup but was ok after other than a rattling A saddle.I shimmed with a piece of foil for now and have yet to order new saddles. John Hall mentioned on the Rick forum that a batch of saddles were not cut the proper way.Other than that its a great bass.

I got extra credit in 8th grade English class for a correct diagram of the preamble to the Constitution.

When I started my current job, the principals were continually criticizing me for "correcting" their documents, especially the bad spelling, grammar and syntax of clients. I then pointed out that they'd be worse off if they got a malpractice suit based on an adverse interpretation of a document caused by sloppy grammar and syntax. Now they just say what they want to achieve and leave the grammar and syntax to me. (Subordinate? Yes. But having a first cousin as one of the principals does have its advantages. Besides, he may run the firm now, but I changed his diapers when he was an infant. Fortunately, I haven't had to remind him of that recently.)

It SURE would be NICE if RIC would start making some Lefty 2010 4003s......you know, so this segment of the population could find out just how good they are!!!!!!!

Well, you aren't going to see any lefty 2010s, but if you can manage to wait just a bit longer, you'll start seeing them. Lefty 4003s are scheduled for production sometime in the first half of 2011...

I worked in mail order for a couple of decades, and the letters and orders I received from ordinary citizens were pathetic in their use of English. Ten years ago, I worked with a millionaire who couldn't spell the name of his own company's products.

Nothing wrong or sissified with being able to express oneself in writing.
Just read the newspaper, even professionals make sloppy errors.

I want to buy a Ric, so far I haven't got one at all. Now what exactly is it about the 2010s? In my homecountry there aren't any in any shops so I most probably have to ebay one. There I also find some 2006s or 2008s for about the same price. So where does the 2010 beat those?

Marc, welcome to the forum! I have an '08 4003, and it stacks up well against the 2010 models. It has the same thin neck profile, and it plays & feels as good as the 2010 models I've tried. I believe my '08 was built during a transitional period - the inlays on my 2010 model are not full-width, but they are made from the new inlay material, and the neck profile is thinner than the neck was on my 1998 model. I think you would love anything 2008 or newer, and hopefully you can grab a nice used one at a good price.

Doh! - it should read "my 2008 model", not my 2010 model.

darn you 2010 4003 owners! Walnut headstock wings, full width inlays, etc.

Well, I DID only pay $1000 brand new for my '97 4003- how much are the new ones going for now?

thanks for the welcome. :)

so are the 2010 features "only" visual candy or are they (even) better crafted in terms of sound and hardware?

ehm actually you replied to that... but if your 2008 model is a transitional, there's still some differences there...? my english isn't that good so I'm not sure I understand everything right.

Welcome to the forum, Marc. You're English seems fine. The 2010 and 2011 Ricks are great instruments. You won't go wrong if you buy one!

oh I'm absolutely convinced of that. I just sometimes wonder if I should hit that button when I see say a 2007 on ebay for a slightly better price.

That must have been a big batch of faulty saddles. My bass is made in November 2010 and it had very sloppy saddles on both, E- and A-string. That´s something I didn´t expect from my brand new instrument.
