1961 Rickenbacker 4001 Bass

Re: 1961 Rickenbacker 4001 Bass
As John points out, the single vol/tone makes that a solid call relating to the 400+1 theory. Nearly every bass from this period still has a dot inlay board, so to see these inlays, one could well presume it is the Vagabond bass with toaster.
Under the hood shots should make for more interesting comments!

Very nice indeed. I wonder how it would sound through that new Ampeg Limited Edition Heritage Series B-15 30W 1x15 Tube Bass Combo Amp?
If Mozart were with us today, he'd play a Fireglo 4001C64! ~~~*~~~ Beethoven, on the other hand, would play a Matte Jetglo 4001C64S!

Oh, my comment was not a "prodding", but just that it is so interesting and getting long with all the info. I'm loving it.leftybass wrote:Fear not...I talked to Mike a while ago and he is making arrangements to bring more pics to this thread for us to scrutinize (drool over)johnallg wrote:Hmmm, I'm running low on popcorn......

OK! Got more photos but had to email to Joey to post cause I'm at NAMM and don't have a computer to reduce the photos to fit size requirements. The photos will be good enough for now. Unfortunately our photographer could not take photos under the guard. The pickguard screws were so tight, he didn’t want to take a chance and break the old plastic. I'll get them in 10-14 days and we'll have a go around again. Check back!!
Leprosy is rare & scarce but nobody wants that!

I'd like to officially name this bass "The Missing Link".
I named this one "Lucy" (another missing link). It's a '62 4000 with the thin body and long horn, but all the old appointments:
The '61 is awesome!

I wonder how it would sound through my '63 Bassman. (Or through my Marshall/Fender/Mesa stack.)Ric N. Backer wrote:I wonder how it would sound through that new Ampeg Limited Edition Heritage Series B-15 30W 1x15 Tube Bass Combo Amp?
