Yeah, Paul Simon's America by Yes is a very very nice bass part, and quite underrated in my opinion...

Erm... I'd like to see (hear?) any current 4003 sound that... distinctly Rickenbacker. I mean that in a good way - no offense meant to those owning recent 4003 basses.
Bring back the cap!

I vaguely remember reading an article on Squire in Guitar Player during the early 70's sometime and he was using Sunn Coliseum heads. I forget most of the article but I remember his tone setting, bass was about on 3, mid about 6 and treble was either maxed out or on 9.

That article was reprinted in Bass Heroes, starting on page 135. It was a Sunn Coliseum Lead amp, with settings as follows: volume - 6, low frequency - 4, mid frequency - 5, high frequency - 3, treble - 10. On his bass the control settings were: volume and tone controls on the horseshoe wide open, volume on the toaster near full and the tone control at 4 (sic).

The article was originally published October '73, written by Leonard Ferris.

Funny, I had just reread that the other day!

Well I was close, haha! not too bad after thirty years. Is that article online Jeffrey?
They also had a monthly SVT column if I'm not mistaken, sometime in the 70's.
