Did Roger play a '71,I dug out the 25th anniversary edition of machine head and one of the photos show the double jackplate and they recorded the album in '71-'72.Does anyone know for sure which year he played.

The basic tracks for Machine Head were finished up on December 21, 1971. Coupling that with the story Ilan posted, Glover likely bought the 4001 in October or November 1971. I assumed that it is therefore a '71, but it could be a '70, I suppose. Or are you thinking that the double jackplate/ROS only come along in '72?

my "crawlspace bass" '70 JA-013, 21 fretter has rickosound. glover's jetglo on machine head is a twenty fretter,i believe, and if the same rick in the vids previously, is also a twenty fretter.

The slipcase on the remastered Machine Head clearly shows a 20-fretter (not to mention Glover's favorite shirt of that era - the same one from the Copenhagen DVD). All of the 21-fretters were from '71, but there were also plenty of 20-fretters from '71.

any serial # documentation to show the approximate switch off point between 21 and 20 frets in '71 ? in my documentation of 1/2" to 1 " pickup spacing switchover to be april/may of '75,( with holdovers usually whiteglo basses in the 1/2" later in the same year.

I know, I have a 20 fretter,the ROS were by special order before 1971,1971 was the first year they were standard,that's why I beleive Roger's was a '71,he picked it up in the US probably not a special order,if you look closely at the jackplate from that CD booklet you see a double jack.

Doesn't it seem odd that a luthier would talk about and post pictures of a bass that practially no one had ever known belonged to Glover in light of an identical modification that was also done to the bass that practically everyone identified with Glover with no mention of the JG? Who modified the JG?
