Always great to see this shot, Andy! That fretless looks about as dark as the '64.

I think the shade of lighting is the factor on that bass Mark, it's that early '73 shade, which is impressive, but not as dark as the '64! Now, that fretboard...

Ron, I acquired the bass with the witch hat knobs, and at that time had not found the correct securing screws for the toaster!

This bass is 5 numers away from my 360/12, DL 793....no wonder the finishes look similar.

Were the black knobs original to your '68, Ron? Andy's '68 has the chrome-top knobs.

it had the disc knobs as did my '70. i tossed 'em fer da blacks. don't like the disc knobs for myself.

for me, the knobs are just for looks as the controls are wide open at all times. i've never used them and go straight into the amp from the bass, save for switching and tuner.

I use my toaster volume and prefer the black knobs on stage.

To me the chrome tops look best on a 4001, but the black knobs go great with an "S" body.
