Thanks a lot, Jason - that was extremely helpful. I think I see a 620-12 in my future - the question is whether I pull the trigger now or wait till fall when I can rationalize it as a birthday present.

Personally, I think you should go for a 620/12 from POTR and have Chris put on his custom string set. It will sound and play fantastic and he's got a great deal on them right now.

Well, I just pulled the trigger on a new JetGlo 620/12 from POTR. I was originally looking at a used 2009 in MID, but dithered too long and someone else grabbed it. However, Chris then made me such a reasonable offer on a new one I couldn't say no.

Thanks again for your advice, Jason. Unfortunately, I'm not going to get the guitar into my hands for about 6 weeks -- I'm travelling to NJ at the end of April and figured I'd save a few bucks on shipping by picking up the guitar myself. But I'll post some pics once I get it.

In the dark all Rick colors are Jetglo, anyway.

New Ric shipping from Nashville to the East Coast, with the weather being nicer, I shouldn't have to wait to open it, right?

Nice one! I wanted that Jetglo, but the wife wanted Midnite Blue and since we already have 2 Jetglos I relented!
My dealings with Chris were good as well. I thought I was getting the used 620/12 MID, but it was actually a new one, so I took it and got a new one for a used price. The reason being is that there were a couple of scratches on it, but since they are going to get nicks and scratches from use, the price break was worth it. Besides, people pay MORE for beat up looking instruments, i.e. a certain company's "Relic" line. I guess I got a Ric relic for less! Who says Rics are overpriced!
I will look forward to pictures of the guitar I always wanted...

My 360/12 FG arrived in Cleveland from Pick of the Ricks in early January, with temperatures here in the 20's. I waited about 8 hours to open it and Chris's spot on setup remained completely intact.

Also, as an experiment, I had Chris set up the guitar with a Thomastik Infeld flatwound set, and I was amazed with the results. In addition to capturing THAT sixties sound, the TI's feel great and supposedly last longer. It's amazing that what seems to be such a small factor can influence tone in such a major way.

Yes, I went for the custom TI set as well. It really gives it "that" sound you imagine in your head. The 330 we have has TI Flats 10-46 and both my 4003's, one fretted & one fretless, have the new Fender 9050CL Flats on them. So I have 4 Rics and there isn't a roundwound string on any of them. I am glad the TI's last awhile because I have to say I am NOT looking forawrd to restringing the 12!

I am now a big fan of flatwound strings (I have them on my Guild archtop as well as my 360/12), but I still use a nickelwound D'Addario set on my 330/12. They seem to be a better match for the hi gain pickups. I, too, despise restringing and have been known not to change strings for years. The flats do tend to take longer to lose their brightness. Also TI flats are much lower tension than the other brands.
