One huge problem with this whole concept is that NONE of these guitars are something that would have been seen in a pawn shop in the 70's or 80's. It's just bizarre. Who ever "modified" a strat into a hollowbody with an F-hole? And the slimline WR humbucker covers on the Mustang are a new creation, not something someone could have done.

Why not have open routes from where the Mustang tremolo unit should go? And shouldn't these pawn shop finds be relic'ed? It's just a bad idea all around.

I'm sure Scotty understands all this "relicing" stuff. He'll explain, I'm sure, unless he's already in bed...

This 'Pawn Shop' Series Fender is a copy of this discontinued 'Squier 51'

Angelo I have to agree that some of the comments have been somewhat insensitive if they are read out of context. But let me be clear, I do not believe that the rules of the forum have been breached.

It would appear that a number of our membership who have an obvious affinity for Fender instruments, believe that Fender has taken marketing their guitars to a new level of hypocrisy. I for one, could not imagine ever finding any of these new models in a pawn shop a few years back as they presumably want us to pretend.

I cruise pawn shops at least once a month looking for a great deal and I am happy to report that I have found a few over the years. None of my purchases ever looked anything like these new models.

For the record I have many brands of guitars in my collection. Fender instruments make up the bulk of them.

In any event I don't believe that this thread constitutes Fender bashing. I think that individuals are simply expressing their opinions of the hype that surrounds this new model series.

I understand that about experessing opions, and thats fine, but like I said, express those same opinions on here about Rics and it gets addressed and you are told about, I got a few of those messages about being negative toward a ric, oh it might insult the ceo of eric who comes on here from time to time, well so be it, if its ok to express an opinion about things non ric, then the same should go for opinions that critsize rics too, but that aint the case on this forum..

And I guess that's it for this one.

I've been watching very closely and honestly, I didn't feel any real discomfort. Compared to the Gibson thread, I let it run for quite a while before it started to get dicey.

I'll do the same here, OBVIOUSLY there is a difference of opinions. I'll lock it for a few days and re-open if the interest is still there.

I too own many other basses. Fenders, Peavey, Washburn, and Rickenbacker's. I thought all that posted here kept it above board but obviously, not all are pleased with that. Before it escalates any further.....neutral corners guys!

As you know this forum does not exist to give voice to those who would simply join to bash Rickenbacker. It is a place where we can celebrate our love of their instruments and yes......... even discuss their quirks. The premise that considers that any brand instrument is perfect is patently absurd. All instruments have quirks and issues and we do not close discussions unless they break the rules of the forum. The rules are very clear and concise on this matter.

I have noticed from time to time that a people get too obsessed with their pursuit of their personal idea of perfection and they try to use this forum as an opportunity to tell RIC how to manage their business. Mean spirited venting and RIC bashing of course will not be tolerated. We hold everyone to a higher standard when it comes to that sort of discussion.

Apart from that, I see all sorts of threads all across this board where members express and discuss their wish list for change in a positive manner and we rarely interject in those threads unless we sense that the thread is heading towards being ugly. I am sure you have seen threads like that yourself Angelo.

You can't say Fender is bashful about trying new things, that's for sure. The idea doesn't seem to be things you would have found in shops in the 70s, but things they might have liked to have been able to find in pawn shops. This is their chance to try new things and if they don't sell, I guess they'll know nobody wanted them. I like a couple of the guitar concepts, but didn't see any basses. Pawn Shop basses are the best!

Fender's probably trying to recapture some market share of people looking for just a bit different shape. I don't really care for these models,
