Jim K, if you're coming to SCARF, then one guitar I'd suggest you try out is Gary Clauson's 370/12 McGuinn. My god, that guitar is incredibly versatile. You'd love it!
I'm hoping Gary brings his 1998 Townshend, too!

I already have a 12 string that I'm still over the moon about. I'd really like to try out a 330/6 on some country or rockabilly stuff.

First weekend of August? Darn, that's our local festival weekend here... and we already have our family vacation planned for the following weekend.... But I sure wish I could make it to SoCal! Sounds like a great time!

Melibee and Marc, I wish you guys could join us!
This year's Southern California Annual Rickenbacker Fest (SCARF) on Saturday August 6th, will take place at:
The Starting Gate.
5052 Katella Blvd.
Los Alamitos, CA
(562) 598-8957
This will be the seventh annual SCARF. There will be a room for displaying our Ricks, a stage for jamming. There might be at least one Rickenbacker playing band to perform as well. Bring you Ricks to display, but for every Rick you bring, please bring a guitar stand to display it on. There is food and drink at the venue. Get there early and you can have a very filling breakfast for just $4. The food there is pretty good. It will be much like last year's Ricktoberfest®, but this time without the unexpected, unwanted issues.
Don't be shy to jam! The jams are not talent contests! It's about fun! Share the stage. Be wary of how much time you've spent on the stage. This is an issue that has to be addressed. In the past some individuals have taken up too much time on the stage. On the other hand some have to be more assertive to make sure they get up on the stage to jam if they really want to.
I will emphasize that this is
NOT a RIC company hosted event. This event will be hosted the local So Cal forumites.
Though this year is the 80th anniversary of Rickenbacker, I will also emphasize that this is
NOT an official RIC company celebration. Though we will take the opportunity to unofficially celebrate and honor RIC for making their wonderful instruments for the past 80 years at this event.
More details to follow.
And Dan-o, don't forget the "
sign"! I may remind you of that, several times!

A BIG thank you to Joey, Dan-o and Scott for scouting and arranging a location for SCARF!

I know it has taken a lot of your time and I am very grateful for your efforts.
Now, time to start herding the cats! Oh, wait, Joey just herded a cat

Great news, Jim ! We are looking forward to meeting you, after all these Forum exchanges !!
For lodging in the Starting Gate area, the following were the recommendations from last SCARF:
Don's Turf Motel ----- for more budget minded Confluence attendees
http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review ... ornia.html
Mariott Residence Inn --- for those Confluence attendees who are combining their visit with a business trip. It's kitty-corner across the street on Katella Ave. form the Starting Gate.

The Starting Gate? Pretty easy, as I really liked it last year, especially the waitress girl who complimented me for Gary's 370/12 McGuinn. Thanks Gary!

That waitress girl remembered the Ricktoberfest® event last year. She asked if she could work it again.

Uh - oh ..... Jake !!
I thought she was eyeing you for your Mick Jagger performance, not cause you were playing Gary's guitar !!

The event will go from about 10 AM, when we can start setting up. Though you can get there as early as 8 AM for breakfast. I think they serve the $4 breakfast until noon. We will have to start breaking down our gear from the stage at 6 PM, maybe later if the manager decides we'll make him more money than the scheduled 6PM karaoke. If the karaoke goes on, maybe we can just have some fun with that and make it part of SCARF '11. We'll have Aitch and Jake sing some karaoke!
We will have the display room until 9 PM.
We will use security precautions for the guitars as we've done in the past.
