Right now, the only colors available are Mapleglo, Jetglo, Fireglo, and Midnight Blue on the 4003 and 4004L Laredo. Add on the Trans Red, Trans Blue, and Trans Green for the 4004Cii Cheyenne II. That's all you can order right now for a new Rick bass. Burgundy "came back" in 2002 as the Color of the Year (for ordering during that calendar year), but most of the other colors once discontinued, have not returned to availability.

Well, for me I suppose more colors are not available on a regular basis, or I could see my self having to add a few!! The burgandy is way cool but I find myself very captivated by the walnut. Not to mention the blackstar as well as the shadow. I know where I can purchase a shadow and it's taking superhuman restraint to resist the urge.

Only dangerous if you don't like beautiful instruments (and don't have a boatload of "spare" cash
laying around)...

Kopfjaeger wrote: Are they all factory colors and if so where does one find the more factory exotic color Ric basses for sale?

What is the official name of the dark brown sunburst one?

Does Rickenbacker still offer 4003's in exotic color combinations??

I realize I may have exceeded the normal allowable amount of questions per thread but my mind was working way faster than my typing!!

1. They are all factory colors, as others have already stated in response. The used equipment market is where to find the non-current colors.

2. The dark brown sunburst was available in two variations, Walnut (gloss clear coat) and Autumnglo (satin clear coat). The color was brought back as a Color of The Year and called Montezuma Brown.

3. Occasionally, the factory produces a one-off bass in an exotic non-standard color and sells it on eBay. There is a thread about those unusual (and beautiful!) instruments on this Forum.

4. There can never be too many questions, and all of us are more than happy to answer them. :D

Thanks, Rich,. That picture needs to be updated with the 4001v63 FG, the 4003S/5 SPC Blackstar, the 4003S/5 FG, the RM3261 FG, the ...

I think I'm in trouble. I constantly find myself performing searches for Rickenbacker bass autumnglo, walnut, and montezuma. This is going to be expensive but the outcome is inevitable!! My heart skipped a beat when it seemed there was one for a reasonable price for sale on ebay. I was partially crushed to find the auction ended in April 2011. Damn, missed it by that much!!
