I saw 'The Wrecking Crew' tonight! Good film. I had to keep reminding myself that it wasn't made for musicians. LOL! I wanted more detail. DennyTedesco took Q/A afterwards and hung out to talk. The Mayor's office sent a rep with a declaration that today in Pittsburgh is ‘Tommy Tedesco Day’, great guitarist that he was. Denny still needs $200K to release the film. There are outtakes floating around. The DVD will include the film outtakes. Nothing earth shattering. If I got this correct, the guitar used to get the sound on 'Wichita Lineman' was a cheep Japanese model with 3 pickups that Carol Kaye owned at that time. Cool to see Joe Osborn play the bass line to 'Let The Sunshine In'.

I am not surprised to see the Glen Campbell tunes as he was also part of the Wrecking Crew.

WOW Ronn!!!!! I am VERY impressed!!!!! Where/How did you find ALL that info.???????

When Paul originally mentioned Joe Osborn it clicked. I already knew Joe recorded "Aquarius/Let the Sun Shine"
If you listen to "Windy", "Everything That Touches You", and "Aquarius/Let The Sun Shine"......you will see that the Bass tone is EXACTLY the same on each.
AND, now that I know he recorded some of America's tunes......it makes sense b/c they all have that signature bass tone.
Thanks to EVERYONE who responded.

I am a BIG fan of the 60's group The Association---ok, go ahead and laugh if you want

Apart from their amazing, layered vocals.....their bass sound Frickin FLOORS me!!!!!!
Two songs in particular, "Windy" and "Everything That Touches You" have THE most incredible bass sound.

Does anyone here know which instrument/amplification was used by their bass player???? To MY ears, it sounds like it could be a Fender P, or a Rick 4001/4005.

Ok.....you can stop throwing things at me

The bass player on the recordings was Joe Osborn who in the studio used a 60's stack knobed jazz bass and played with a pick as far as a amp im nopt shure but belive it might have been an Ampeg flip top..aand am not laughing at you like theAssociation as well as much of the 60's pop music, he also played on the Mama's and the Papa's recodings too, love his sound and tone on "I SAW HER AGAIN"

Hi, I am also a fan of the brilliant vocal arrangements of the Association. I recorded all of the music tracks for "Everything That Touches You" back in February, but never added the vocals at that time. Seeing this thread reminded me to go back and finish the song.
My cover is on my music website: http://www.beatbyrd.com/misc_covers
The song is about midway down the page.

The way I did the bass was to double track my Musicman Sabre - an octave apart on the riff you are talking about. I played it fingerstyle. Joe Osborn used a pick and was a more precise player (insert P-bass joke here) than I am. This doubled octave technique may be how he got that 'sound' on a number of his bass parts. I considered going back and tightening up my bass parts, but it would not have been easy, based on a submix I had done. I think that one could get this sound with almost any brand of bass. I recorded the Sabre direct - no amp. Tom

Your version is SO close to the original, it is brilliant!!!!!!

Those vocal parts HAD to be nightmarish, but, you did an outstanding job!!!! NICE bass track(s) as well.
