Re: Tubes and Rics!
Today's practice session was on the 2030 plugged into a sf Showman head which is sitting astride a (small) 2-12 Bassman cab which is sitting astride a 1-15 Showman cab. Simply wunnerfuf!!
Re: Tubes and Rics!
Those old Fenders do have a way with bass, don't they?
Last night's rehearsal was with my 1962 Concert Amp running into the LDS 2-12 cab. Ahhhhhhhh, tonal bliss.

I will try to go to the Toronto store this week and hear it by myself, hopefully if time permits!!! They seem to look very cool indeed!!! The few that have them simply swear by their tone and ease of use.smem wrote:I have tried the YBA 300, it is a monster of an amp. Simple eq and huge tube tone. Also surprisingly light. They list for $1550 plus tax CAD. Oh yeah, looks cool too if that matters to you( it does to me).
Re: Tubes and Rics!
I just bought a YBA 300 and should receive it by next monday. I can't wait to try it out with my Rics !!!
I will keep you posted. All reviews so far have been fantastic and this amp may make history in the tube amps world !!! Check out the premier guitar review of this month and see by yourself !!! http://www.premierguitar.com/

Yes indeed, tubes and Ricks are a heavenly match! And I love seeing the tubes glow!
I love the sound of Ricks (and every other of my basses and guitars) through my Marshall JCM800 Super Bass!

Re: Tubes and Rics!
I WISH I still had the '69 Major I used for years for both Guitar and Bass.. but it got too heavy, and I went to a '73 Bassman 100.. At that time I was all PBass, I was still on my quest for a perfect 4001. The Bassman is gone as well..
Now I play through a mid 90's Trace Elliot GP12-SMX 1-15 combo (mostly on the tube pre). I have found that Trace Elliot amps give the bark and dynamics I need. I have a few other TE heads and cabs back to the early 80's, but I think the SMX nails it! Especially with my 4001

I should get my Traynor YBA 300 by next monday and I will post my opinions on it as soon as I can. With the possibility of swapping the 6L6 to EL34 tubes, easy bias adjustments on-the -fly, its lightweight and rated 300 watts of tube glory power, this is very promising indeed !!!
Re: Tubes and Rics!
Try the TK88, that might give the highest Output and from JJ they are excellent quality and Sound!
Re: Tubes and Rics!
Got my Traynor YBA 300 this week and tried it every evening since last monday!!
That isnprobably the best all-tube head I ever heard and played. It is so powerful with tons of headroom. It has that warmth that really compliments the Ric bass. At a mere 50 pounds rated at 300 watts, it has that overdriven tone that I was looking for. Really, a clear winner for 2011 new bass guitar heads in that category!!! It is even probably too much for my needs !!! Run this head with a good 810 cab or a 4x12, and you are in Tone paradise !!!

Re: Tubes and Rics!
12 output tubes and only 51 lb.? Now that's verrrry intetesting.

Re: Tubes and Rics!
Yes, indeed very interesting.... This is just too much of a head for my needs, really !!!! Anyone interested in buying the head, it is in brand new condition, with warranty !!! I prefer offering it here first !!! At the rehearsal ,the band liked the Tone and so did I, but oh man, was I ever loud ! I will never get through the head and maximize its use with the band context I am in right now !!! It is a head that shines when matched with cabs that will handle all of its power. Shoot me an email and we can see what we can do. Really, the best new powerful all-tube head out there !

Re: Tubes and Rics!

Here's my recently refurbished '65 SB-12, my Cheyenne through this amp just sounds so good. Unfortunately it's too small power wise for the gigs I play.
Re: Tubes and Rics!
I like Rick sound through my tubes ampeg svt cl + ampeg svt410HLF

Re: Tubes and Rics!
hey there,ROBJ. i had one of those ampeg sb-12's and ended up selling it for the same reason you posted. it sounded great at lower volumes, but couldn't really cut it for gigs. (without being miked, which isn't usually an option for me). your's looks really fab refurbished!
