The black on Jetglo is a 1986 Shadow. The white on Jetglo is a 2011. The 2011 is the thinnest horned Rickenbacker I own and the neck is very slim. The Shadow is no slouch in the slim neck category either!!

Well, I do not like those '80s big horn 4003 but I feel there is also something strange in the newest (2010-2011) thin horn basses. I really prefer the V63 shape as well as the '98-2008 4003 bodies: they are almost the same as '60s basses which I consider having the "classic" rickenbacker shape. I cannot understand why RIC changed from those. :?:

My 2011 4003 has the smallest horns of any of my 5 basses. They are slightly smaller than the horns on my 1973 4001.

For me, it's not a matter of horn size since I'm attracted to the Rickenbacker look, I think as we all are. What matters most to me is the feel of the neck. All my basses have thin and lightening fast necks.

While Rickenbacker shape and sound attracted me, what set the hook was the feel of the neck.

That's my two cents on the subject.

I used to worry about details like headstock shape, etc., but now I try and love each instrument for what it is. The diversity of shapes and features is part of what makes Rics interesting, but to me the most important thing is the SOUND! 8)

Actually, for me I'm not as concerned about how "well" a bass plays. I like different scale lengths, neck widths & depths, string spacing... If how well an instrument played was a concern to me, then I don't think a Ric would be my choice because I have other basses that are more comfortable to me for right hand placement. Somewhat related, the other night for the first time (that I can remember) I found the edge of the body biting into my arm, so I had to make an adjustment to my playing technique.

A hofner is the most comfortable bass for me. Just lovely!

I just did right now. It does kind of dig into my right leg, but that dosn't bother me at all...I love my Hofner! Its a great instrument. There should be a Hofner section of the forum. Sort of like "Going Gretch" but for hofners.

I was thinking the same thing yesterday as I was waiting around while getting beat over the head on a Hartke amp I was selling to a chain type guitar store. I've never played a Hofner before but if I had to play now without a strap while sitting down, I'd be hunched over like Quasimoto. I imagine it's much like playing a Flying V without a strap.

I amused myself by tooling around with a few Schecter and Ibanez 5er's. Not impressed, that's another story.

I do not like Ibanez instruements. Every single one I have tried are bad. They have neck issues as well.

Hmm, I thought Gary Willis' Ibanez that I played was quite nice actually. This was after a Tribal Tech gig a few years ago. 8)
