Yeah over the years several... the last was on my 4003S5 about two 0r three years ago - can't remember if it was the E or B. It was kinda funny when it happened the drummer was a little freaked - he had never seen a bass break a string before.

The bass player in my band broke his E at a gig 6 months ago. It was the first time in over 10 years of playing with him and hundreds of gigs that he's broken a string. He said it was the first time he'd ever broken one. He didn't have any extras and we were the only band. It was actually pretty funny watching him play the set without an E. He actually pulled it off pretty well.

I always keep the old set (if I don't have a second new set)... just for bad things like that happening.

I have been using my 5 string basses a lot these days, so if I
did break a string I'd still have four left to use.
