The paint job. Of course, that's what makes the majority of the "one-offs" different...
Let's not forget that Ben spotted a particularly nice bit of wood awhile back and hung on to it to use for this instrument.

Hey, your's had a bit more than just a "paint job"!
Well, it's not exactly in the majority, is it? Neither is my other one.

Yes, it does have nice flame...
I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

...I've seen many 4004Cii with marvellous flame wood grain, at least for the 4004 that is quite common also! :D

Anyway... This one's been up for a few days now and so far, no bids. It seems though, that this listing is a bit different than most of the other one-off Ricks. If I recall correctly, most have started out at a fairly low opening bid, with a reserve, while this one is no reserve, but a fairly high opening bid.

Of course, nothing really happens until the last 30 seconds anyway. It'll be interesting to see how this one goes...

Yeah, as long as you don't need to remove those truss rods. I remember getting a 4004 RA back in 2005 and we had to rout channels on the front just to replace the truss rods. Then, we had to refinish it so the paint all matched. What would have otherwise been a ten minute, routine fix ended up taking more than a week. Not cool.
also the couloring seems nicer. What is actually the "one off" speciality of this 2011 4004???
That's an opinion, but the vast majority of owners agree that the bursts that have been put out for the past four years or so are unquestionably superior to the ones pre-2005. Eric blows that painter away, its not even close. I also applied some tint directly to the wood on this bass and sanded it back down to enhance the grain so it would look more 3D, something that is a little more time consuming and that we don't normally do.This one also has the new and improved UV finish, so it is extremely glossy and more bulletproof than the conversion varnish finished Cheyennes.

It's not a 4005/12 Doubleneck Lightshow, but if you don't like it, don't bid on it!

I can attest that the new finish is indeed way, way tougher than before with no change in sound. If fretless basses ever come back I have no doubt this finish will take rounds with no problem.

I don't own one, but I think the recent bursts are stunning, easily the best that RIC has ever produced.
