You will not regret it John. It's the only amp that I use now. All my other amps just sit there unused. I even bought a chrome stand for my AC30VR. :D

Did anyone mention that it only weighs 50lbs? It is very light when you compare it to a regular AC30. So it's perfect for gigging too.

Let us know what you think as I seem to be pulling to a AC30VR.

Don't forget about the Vox Pathfinder, or their Valvetronics amps. Roland's Cube series amps are a lot of fun to play around with as well. There are many choices out there for way under $500 bucks. You could even go ampless. Multi-effect unit/Amp simulator into a power amp or powered speakers.

Congratulations!

Since 20 minutes I am back from our band rehearsal. After three hours the other guys started being tired. I felt just warmed up, caused in the tone of the VR... No joke, that is exactly what I said when finishing.

The amp is right, are You too?!

Enjoy it - and please report!

I 'm kind of changing my mind about the Vox....I only tried it out quickly in the shop so couldn't really tell but nearly all the demos on you tube and indeed on Voxs own demonstration channel aren't impressing me. It doesn't seem to be the pure clean I'm looking for.. Even when played on the normal channel it seems to have a bit of 'crunch' to it. That's fine if I want that but first of all I want the crystal glass clean....I'm looking to Fender but they don't seem to have what I want in the price range I'm aiming for ( about US $500 ) £300 approx.........( forget Fender frontman 212 )

I know there are those that turn up their noses at digital modeling amps. But I have to say, demo a Roland cube. It models both a JC-120 and a Fender Twin. And I have to say, the sounds are not too shabby. Especially if you're just looking for a practice/small gig amp. Also, if you're willing to look at used amps, look for a Fender Champ 25 or Champ 25SE from the early 90's, or the Princeton 65. Old Peavey Bandits are a good bang for the buck, and should be easy to find. Yamaha put out some great clean amps in the mid to late 80's. The Yamaha G100 212 or the 112. My favorite was the G100 212 Series III.

Good call, and something I should have thought of earlier! I have a Line6 Flextone that has some great tones (clean and dirty) - and they are pretty cheap used - like this one on UK ebay. Good compressor, chorus and reverb on top of the amp modelling (JC120, Twin Reverb, AC15, Fender Deluxe etc etc....). Mine has been a good little workhorse, and as its SS it's very light and easy to transport. The Vox VT amps have similar capabilities and are very inexpensive on the second-hand market, but I have no direct experience with them....

The Tech 21 Trademark 60 has a very nice clean tone.

The smaller version might, also.

So............did you test drive a Vox AC30VR or did you actually buy one John? How did you like it if the answer is yes in either case? :D

Although I prefer my '65 Vox AC30 top boost among all other amps I ever tried, I did pick up a Vox Valvetronix AD120VTH and AD60VTX and have to say I like them a lot. You can get a AD60VTX for under $300, and you get a lot of amp and effects models. You really need to also get the Vox VC-12 foot controller which usually sells for about $200, but this is a great and very versatile option. I like these older "blue" valvetronix amps better than the new ones, I think they sound better and have a presence knob which the others don't, and that little knob can make a world of difference.
