I GOT A MIDNIGHT BLUE 330!!!

Image

OK, I know all the good folks here play Combo 400 tulip-shaped prototypes from 1957, but for me I'd rather have this Midnight Blue 330 than Lennon's original 325. I only wanted a six string Ric and it was either going to be a 330 or 360. I posted here a few months ago seeking some opinions and the good folks here actually steered me towards the 330. The classic shape, the knobs and gold plastic I can add to it so I can make it my own...I went 330 and I am glad Santa heard.

Santa also dropped off some other Ric related stuff with my blue 330:
- classic gold pickguard (the gold TRC I made myself)
- classic oven knobs
- some blue picks to match the guitar color
- a Ric guitar strap and some leather blue dye to match the guitar color

Image

The reason I went six string is because now my 12 string Ric can have a brother. I can't believe I now own a 12 string Rickenbacker and a 6 string Rickenbacker.

I only had about twenty minutes playing time with her yesterday, and I have to say, Wow!" My very first strum was just so magical. I couldn't believe how great the guitar felt in my hands and how great she sounded on my first play. I'll eventually swap out the white guards for the gold and put on those oven knobs, but for now I'm keeping her stock.

Thanks to all here who offered great advice. Thanks to my family for their help with this guitar. Special thanks to Chris at Pick Of The Pics and Tony at Pickguardian for great work and service. And thanks to all who work at Rickenbacker who had a hand in getting me this Midnight Blue 330. I always thought Santa's elves worked in the North Pole, but, nah, they work in Santa Ana, California.

I got a Midnight Blue 330!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congrats!!! As you can see in my avatar, I'm somewhat fond of "Midnight Blue" myself!! :D

Can you provide details on the gold plastic parts? I'm interested in swapping on my 350 as well...I've said it here before, but I honestly don't get why Ric doesn't use gold on all their finishes--never have seen one where gold didn't look good.

Congrats!

Mine is MID, too. What a colour! Click my subscription, then You can see how it could be toasterized with gold plastic. The pics are nor very good, but good enough for a taste.

BTW the 330 is really good together with thomastik infeld flatwounds, in my case the JS110.

Enjoy your 330, You will love it!

BTW this is the right "Santa Blue" before the Coca Cola Company turned him into red for advertising.
Look at old drawings!

Dutch Sinterklaas is the proto-Santa and he's always been red and white... besides, St. Nick was a greek and greek popes wear dark-brown! In the UK Santa seems to have been green though

Congrats on the 330 MID, Tommy! :D

Thanks, folks.

Yeah, there is some wild wood grain in the fretboard. I guess I got one of those new Caribbean wood ones. It definitely catches the eye in person.

The gold guards were purchased from Tony at Pickguardian. I'm not putting them on right away, I'll make the pickguard switch at a later date. I did lay the gold on top of the white to get a look at how it will eventually be. The white on blue I find is more striking, but for a change of pace I'll swap to gold now and then.

Yeah, yours looks real good. I don't want to directly copy yours, but they may look similar.

Toasters? No way. I like the sound of the pickups I have and I like the fact that I can raise and lower the polepieces to really tailor the balance I like. My older Ric does not have those polepieces that can be adjusted and, ugh, it bothers me.
