My 4003s went up against a Stingray, a Fender Jazz, and later a Dingwall, and they always won out with my various bands too.rickenbrother wrote:Just to add, these same bands I speak of, have heard my P-bass, my StingRay5 and Ibanez BTB. The 4004Cii 4 and 5 string have always the hands down favorites. The 4003 was second favorite.

Re: Sooo... if you were me.
Ive seen some really great looking 4003 basses recently.
I think the change back to the iconic striped headstock makes the choice obvious....a new 4003 FG or MG!

I think iconic is the word. The 4004 looks a bit like dessert, I think the 4003 might be my main coursepag wrote:Ive seen some really great looking 4003 basses recently.

Hi Adam, I agree one hundred percent with Bruce from Michigan, I have six basses, love em all, but My MG 3000 is so solid and simple I grab it most of the time when inspired. They are not easy to find, but over time they come up for sale, I have two. Then a funny thing happened on the way to the (Rick) forum. Knowing that the 4003's were a different animal, listening to them for years from other bands, I couldn't take it anymore and when a deal came from MF I pulled the trigger. Glad I did, very fun. Now, when I recover financially I will look at a 4004. The best advice I see is buy one of each.

Nah, might as well let him know right up front that when it comes to Ricks, one is never enough...jps wrote:Let's go easy on the guy, for now.

My first bass was a Walnut 3000. I'm just too tall for a short scale bass though!grygrx wrote:I'm biding my time and saving a bit of money to dive into the Ric pool. Forums and the internet being what they are I've managed to tangle my mind a little. My initial intent was to get a new 4003.
but...
Searching around here I found information about the 3000 and 2000 series which caught me eye. I tend to like things that 'off the beaten path' and so the attraction is there. The 3000 itself (short scale) has the additional attraction, because I don't currently own a short scale bass. So, am I just being drawn to the newest girl to catch me eye.... or could this be real love?

Who's calling me shiny?
Yeah, but I don't have all the colors or all the models. Not even close. I do have to shoot a new picture of the Rickenbacker National Forest one of these days, though.
