I agree, that is not a real Rickenbacker; there is at least two other things that show it is probably not real, in that photo. Of course, Peter and I could be wrong, can you post more photos of the bass?
But, then again, with your "ehum" comment, we are definitely right, it is a fakir!

You fellows are GOOD! It is a neck-thru 197x Ibanez. I have owned 3 4001cs, 1 1980 4001, an 86 4003 a 4001s and I hate to admit that this one sounds more classic Rick than any of them. The body is a bit thinner, but even unplugged it sounds like a real classic.

If you've heard Yes's "no opportunity necessary" then you've heard the same tone!

I got my new 4003 mapleglo bass! Excellent. Only thing is, why does RIC use white filler on dark woods!!!??? My headstock wings look a little
funky. Take a look:

Try this again (first attempt failed)...
Here's my new 4003 mapleglo beside my Fakenbacker. The new 4003 is FANTASTIC! I'm ok with the grain/filler issue on the headstock wings. Beats no walnut wings at all! Plus, although I got it on eBay second-hand, it's a 2010 and it is in FACTORY NEW condition! Case is too. Unbelievable deal.

Brian, you should post larger images as I cannot see what you are talking about (white filler??)...

Here's a pic of it with EXTREME digital clarity editing applied. The headstock looks pretty under normal lighting, but if you REALLY enhance it,
you'll see the white grain filler. When I fill a dark wood grain, I use a comparable color. However, if you look at older examples of RIC 4001's / 4003's,
the fretboards will show a lot of whitish filler in the grain holes. Some say that's the lacquer that settled into the grain and looks opaque, but I've asked some
"experts" about this and they say it's actually grain filler. However, my fretboard is PERFECT, with no swiss-cheesy grain to it! Solid even rosewood color.
