That's genius.

Well, maybe a bit short of genius, but I had to figure out some use for a pick on bass!

I got the idea from this pickguard, which was originally on my '73 FL and had a slight buckle due to the neck PU screw being over-tightened over the years. You can drop a pick tip right in there:

That bass is currently in the process of bridge PU modification, so it's not all together.

So here's what it became on my other two. Just back off the two screws a turn or two and snug 'em up:

Picked up one of these from the Ebay seller. By mistake he sent me a prototype for the 4001 bass. Says it's different so it really won't fit correctly on the 4003 and is sending the correct one. If anyone wants it, PM me and I'll mail it to you. Just pay it forward. First one gets it.

If I'm playing over the neck pickup I just rest my thumb on the pickup ring and I have a bezel with raised thumbrest for the treble pup which is where I spend most of my time.

Works for me :D . I'm not always in the same spot though. I travel about an inch in either direction depending on the tone I need for a particular passage. I play in a speed metal band though so I need a pretty punchy tone most of the time hence always being around the treble pickup. Plus I like the string tension right around there too. I do play over the neck pickup during the few acoustic passages we play. But 95% of my time is spent over or around the treble pickup.

I can't believe this is the first time I've seen something like this. People are always thinking. Looks like it was meant to be there.

I also picked up a freebie 4001 size, but the seller sent the 4003 size as well. It needs a touch of refinement - namely, the dip is a bit too deep so it isn't flush with the pickguard. Seller plans to work on this. It works great for providing an anchor and now I can play right near the end of the fingerboard all the way to over the treble pickup.

It's not beautiful, but it's not ugly either and it does become less obvious at a short distance:

All in all a pretty good product and worth the short money. I also removed it to see if the smaller stock screws still set OK and they do.
