+1!

As I understand it, he requested a larger bodied 12 string with a wider neck. The rest was left to Rickenbacker.
The factory certainly delivered a fabulous guitar and by all accounts he's totally thrilled with it.
I wouldn't be surprised to see this guitar feature in the press photos that will precede the new album/tour.

That sounds totally credible. Makes complete sense that the Edge would primarily be interested in the functionality of the guitar (i.e. specifying a wider neck) and leave the rest of the cosmetic detailing to the factory.

It is a killer instrument that will be quickly associated with Edge. I think it was a brilliant choice. A one off or a U2 model?

Don't toy with us!

Given Mr. Hall's statements on the "wider neck" issue, it seems safe to assume "one off" until proven otherwise.

re: quit nitpicking and just play..

It's a forum for cryin' out loud. By and large the constituency here analyzes every aspect of the guitars to a level that would be unbelievable to the general public.. .. knows details of the guitars.. years.. makes.. colors.. frets.. pots.. cap values.. neck treatments.. etc.

It's a hobby. ... so I see nothing wrong with noting observations and discussing.. at the end of the day won't make any difference.. but it's fun to know every nuance of the beloved Rickenbacker.

If the criteria has become: stop all the observations and just go gig

then I guess we don't need a forum.

Well, there you have it. You don't put a guitar in press photos because one of its pickups is wound to 1957 specs.
However, you do put a guitar in press photos because of looks, looks, looks. The main selling point to this guitar has got to be looks.

Yeah, the wider neck on a 12 string will definitely grab some buyers. You say the Edge bought because of that. But, heck, you can get wider necks on Rics any day of the week. Clearly, any day of the week you can't go into a store and get a gorgeous blinding white Ric with an f-hole.

Are we going to deny that looks play a role in our guitar purchases? Man, we all play Rickenbackers here. If they looked like just like a Les Paul, I wouldn't own one.

Of course looks are important. This whole thread (and at least one other) is about the upper guard.

The Edge removes the upper part of the pickguard on all his Rickenbackers, at least in all the pics I have seen. I wonder why?

Because it takes less time for his guitar tech to polish the Ricks when there's no upper guard-it gets dity bettwen the upper and lower guard, and his tech has lots of guitars to polish! ;)

Sleepless nights about upper pickguards?

I go on holiday and when I get back the Edge got this cool guitar. I love the somewhat rounded horns, I prefer them over the regular 330 horns which are more pointy. The look of the instrument reminds me of the white 360 with gold hardware Per Gessle has - the combination of white with gold works great, imo.
