Ended at $2650. WOW! At least the new owner is a "Rickfan" as evidenced by his Ebay name...

I guess I don't feel so bad about paying $1100 for mine only a couple of months ago. I wish my other investments went up in value that quickly, since I could actually realise a gain by selling them, unlike the Ric which isn't going anywhere soon.

All I need for mine is to find or refurbish the pickup ring.

Well let's see if the sale actually goes through and money passes hands. If so the market on Shadows went from $650 in 1991 to over 2k this year.

$1545.00 for mine.....geesh! I was actually thinking of bidding on this one at around $900.00, figuring I had overpaid a bit on the first one. I saw back around May or June one went for less than a grand.....

Good point about seeing if it actually gets paid for. A lot of auctions dont go thru. Wonder if it was a shill bid that stood up? I dont think so since the high bidder was still high at $2200.

More than likely the bidder dumped a large bid in order to win the auction, not intending to actually pay 2K. Usually it's a safe bet to win an auction that way, sometimes not... So unless he's worried about negative feedback I'd be surprised if he pays.

If you read the feedback for the buyer (rickfan60) you'll see that mine was the first one for him (positive). I recently sold him a 1975 4001 FG with a repaired neck, and he e-mailed me back after receiving it what he was going to do to restore it (it had some truss rod issues). To me, the buyer is a sincere and knowledgeable collector (and repairer) of Rickenbackers, and I tend to believe that the exceptional condition of that Shadow contributed to his desire to bid that high. I have no reason to doubt his sincerity in regard to the auction (ditto with the other, higher-feedback bidder).

Rickfan60 mentioned in one e-mail that he had a 4003 Blackstar, a 460, and a 4002 AUT in his collection - I'd consider that a serious collector.

Nor did he intend to pay 2K for a shadow. At that price I'd let mine go or my blackstar.

Considering there are only 50 Shadows (less than the number of Lemmys, whenever and if they are ever finished), and that the item in question looks to be a premier example, I don't think the buyer is that out of line bidding that high. That doesn't mean it would be worth it to me, but it's not my purchase. He couldn't have won it without outbidding even the shills...
