Ridiculous. This is the problem when the legacy of the founders is lost. These keys came directly from Schaller.

I've just written Dr. Bünning myself, telling him he needs to do a bit more research and also reminding him he should not lose the history of Helmut Schaller, Rene Schaller, and Joseph Regnet- who built that company out of the ruins of WW II.

I know, I know, I know, ridiculous. Without besmirching my German heritage, I was going to say that he has been hitting the Schnapps a bit too hard if that is what he believes.

Mr. Hall, I did mean to start a potential issue. You said he was not an instrument guy so I did not attempt to lecture him, with the various fotos I now have in vintage Schaller key winds. Especially I know first hand how stubborn Germans can be. I thanked him for his prompt reply and left it at that.

Anyway, the hope of the NOS Schaller route has fallen through.

I've already written him myself and told him he might need to learn a bit more about the company he bought.

In his defense (?), his previous gig, I am told, was in a management position at Gummi Bears.

I agree with you that you should never gloss over or forget about past products or services a company has developed or provided. While I realize that RIC can't provide replacement parts for my 4002, I'm happy that you have posted on my threads and that you seem very interested in seeing it resurrected. To me, that speaks volumes about your pride in Rickenbacker.

Well, he may not have known what gummy bears were either; they are just widgets to profit from, to many MBAs, anyways.

dane...i have a letter from said hall, dated 18 june,1985 (he even uses the european dating system...tee-hee) saying that the 4008 has regretfully been deleted from our catalog, and once the one or two left in stock are sold, no more will be available.

so..what did the 4008 post squire/entwistle look like pre-4003 ???

The 4008 was officially listed from 1975 to 1985 so its deletion from the catalog is about right. The 4003S/8 came along in 1986 to take its place.

considering the two '73 basses were potato heads, were any built in '75 with the current elongated headstock ?

Update, got a killer set of early Schaller sealed tuners for my 4002 project. Thanks Jdog! They are so nice that they put my black hardware plans for her on the shelf! No sense putting a black tail piece on her when she has chrome tuners. No matter, she will be very correct!!

Glad to hear that! They are some nice tuners. Funny enough, they came on my 73 4001 (Nov or Dec, I forget). They work great but I had to get some Wavy Grovers to put on there of course, and they seem to be doing the job so no sense hoarding these! Enjoy them!!!

I've been trying to find these in black for a few years. In my discovery, I came across the part number for this particular model but for the life of me cannot find what I did with it. I've switched computers once or twice since then. No idea what I did with that info...

I got the number directly from Schaller, though. I know that they had different letter designations for the different screw positions. Like M4-J or something like that.

Oh now these in black is exactly what I'm after!! No use attempting to ask Schaller for any info about these since they have no clue about these in chrome, let along black!! I've pretty much resigned myself to the idea that there will be no black hardware treatment on this 4003 Mapleglo bass. Not a bad thing, it just won't be unique.
