Which led to my next question, can I heat to a level where the chrome is safe and then plunge, he thought best leave the heat to electromagnetic charging, as any heat near a magnet inc the one being used for the charge would be damaged.

I can only see inside the curl and the metal is the rough look.

Interesting. That's leading me to believe that the wider gapped horseshoes weren't originally that wide and were altered later on.

May be the stock was quite old by the early 60's and could also have gone rusty, hence the bad pitting.
