I decided to go for the 15" over the 12 because I seem to always prefer the 15" tone over smaller speakers no matter who made the amp. It's also due to the fact that this one is scheduled to arrive about the same time as the bass, whereas the 12" is several weeks backordered.

I just got a GK MB112-II and love it.

I have been through a bunch of amps in the last year and nothing seemed to do it for me. I even special ordered an Ashdown that I loved the sound of but it was over rated watt wise and weighed a ton

I can barely put it past 2 in the house and last weekend I jammed with a band for the first time in years. this amp was very laud at half volume.

I am getting the MBP115 as soon as it is available which will give me 400 watts of power I dont necessarily need. the MB112_II weighs like 30 pounds..you almost feel like you are going to wing it over your head whenn you pick it up....lol

Yeah. . .. I need 200 watts like a meth addiction, at least at the moment. But, headroom is good - both literally and in terms of future use.

I hear ya but its not always about "need" sometimes a want is just as valid. in this case it cant be wrong....

I just got a Gibson Explorer bass a few months back....didnt need that either

+1 for the new GK combos - I have the MB-112 II and love it! It is so light and more than loud enough for my (new) band which consists of drums guitar and bass. Have never turned it up past 10:00 during rehearsal. The only thing I kind of don't like is the midrange - it seems to me to have a bit of a midrange bump - been turning down the high mids to about 10:00 and low mids to 11:00, but thinking maybe I should try the contour switch.

How about the TC Electronics BG250? Seems very versatile to me.

Probably a good amp. I demoed a new one vs. a used GK in the shop, and to me, the GK sounded better. It may just have been the fact that I was already "warmed up" by noodling by the time I got to the GK and therefore had a better time with it. . . ?

By "warmed up" I was talking about my fingers - not the amps!!

The only bass playing I've done in six years is in music stores, so my so-called chops are rusty.

Personally, I thought that's what you meant - but there actually is a warm-up time on the GK amp! (only about 2 seconds and obviously not tubes warming up!)

I used to lust after the new TC stuff, but when I played one in a store A) the volume knob was broken - intermittent output, and B) I didn't like the "digital" nature of the knobs - not smooth, continuous motion but clicks, and the click from 0 to the lowest volume seemed to bring a very significant volume boost. I have also heard of one person who ordered a cab from Amazon and it came with a broken driver. The fact that the stuff is manufactured in China while GK is back in the US makes me that much happier that I went GK!

I forgot about this thread.....I got the MBP 112 powered amp to go with the MB112-II...all I can say is WOW!

it is so loud and clean with the Ric that I cant put it past 2 in the house without it being too loud for anyone to think...

there is a richness that comes with pairing these units, the sound is fantastic....

all three of my Bass's sound great through it. The Ric is so much louder than the other 2 through this amp. thats always been the case though. its just got some great pickups...

I dont even think I have gotten all the different tones out of this amp yet and that compressor is the icing on the cake....

for a week I nearly thought I blew something the amp though. I played out with the single 112-II before I got the MBP and the damn thing was loud enough at half volume. I am playing at home and it was dead sounding. turned it up more than I was when playing out and it was not very loud......pressed the active bass switch by mistake instead of the compressor switch DOH!
