I am wondering if it is okay for a dealer to sell a new instrument for more than the MSRP...

I think John Hall has previously stressed that it is a recommended price only.

Alas, it's only a "suggestion"

I had written Mr. Music about the bass, and they sent me a message the following day. Happily I was able to tell them I had already secured one. Here's their email:
"We do have two coming in, I'm not sure what were gonna sell them for yet, but we do have a lot of inquiries on this bass."

I realize it's their bass and they can sell however they want, but it just seemed like bad form to put it on ebay instead of selling to a loyal customer. Just my 2 cents.

Ah, didn't know that, Keith. Hopefully, I 'll see it by mid-week.
I'll have to send Bruce a thank you card or bring him something when I go back to Rochester at Xmas to visit.

Cheers

You AND the shop are both getting homemade ginger cookies when my bass comes in!

I'm going to pick up my new SnowGlo today after work. In the meantime, this afternoon is dragging by incredibly slowly.

This is the first brand-new, store bought bass or guitar purchase I've made since 1981. I've always preferred buying used. However, the white/white/chrome of this 4003 is just too sweet to let pass.

Looking forward to lots of photos!
Also: don't forget to add it to the registry.

What a beautiful bass, this is the color I've always wanted, and Mr Music is not very far from me but of course as it goes I have no money for a bass right now (and I'm pretty far from home right now anyway).

I've brought the SnowGlo home. She's just so awesomely beautiful. Mind you, the wheels are turning. I can see a horseshoe + a toaster added. Also, a back painted white guard. Mind of a tinkerer.

That's not speculation but a fact. I think the understand well what's going to happen if they do it again.
I don't know how the dealers are chosen to handle these one-off rarities, but I would think only the most reputable ones would be considered. Its disappointing as a consumer to see this "attempted gouging" take place.

Thanks for sticking up for us John.

Hi Jeffrey, yeah but I'm leaving in a few days, will be back here in January for most of the year. Incidentally there is a Rickenbacker dealer here, found it online, not sure if he is a real dealer and if he has any in stock but was nice to see.

Careful, thinking of mod options voids warranty!
