I agree with you John. While there is no clear cut off dates for many of the changes we see, there is plenty of bleed over while those changes were going on. While we normally say that 1968 was the last year for the horsie, we know that the horsie bled into early 1969 and that the slotted pole high gain made it's appearance in 1968. Just like not knowing exactly when the aluminum tail piece ended and the zinc one started. Best we can say is early 1973, same with the end of the full width fret markers. I respectfully disagree.
While the exact times for the changes could not be defined, the variations within a time
frame allowing for overlaps could be pretty well documented.
Showing the many different examples could at the very least provide a useful reference.
