Guys, what's the story behind this one? Is it a one-off? I haven't posted here in a loooong time, so I'm a little out of the loop...

Yeah, the "remote fortress" is now about 7600 miles more remote on the other side of the planet...

But your fortress is now closer to my place.

It's on my bucket list to visit Australia and/or New Zealand someday. If only just to go outside on a clear night and see a totally different sky...

I assume that one-off walnut-backed 4003 was made in recent years, judging by the full-width inlays, yes?

Schweet!

Yeah, what was it, C.J.? Maybe three years ago?

I think what would weird me out about the southern hemisphere is the sun tracking to the left after sunrise and coursing through the northern hemisphere of the sky. Of course, it happens so slowly that most wouldn't notice it.

Four, Feb 2010. Time flies, huh?

As an avid sky watcher/amateur astronomer, it IS cool to look at a totally different set of stars. I need to get a good telescope, you've got a good view of the center (or should I spell that centre?  ) of the galaxy from here. Lots of cool stuff to see there. I'm a bit disoriented though, all of the familiar constellations aren't there or are in a different direction. I'd be hopeless trying to navigate by the stars. Plus, you can't see the North Star and there's no South Star.

As for the sun, it's really not noticeably different. You just have to remember that it's to the North instead of the South. Otherwise, it still comes up in the East and sets in the West. But it has been summer here, maybe it'll get weirder as winter progresses. Of course, everyone's satellite dishes and solar panels point North as well...

I spend three nights a week in the Pilbara on a mining camp, away from all source of lights. I am still amazed at the sky each time I look. The Southern Sky is nice but I miss my classics (big dipper, etc.). Locating the true South is a bit more difficult compared to the North...

I really like the new basses(love this one) but every time I see one I can't help but dislike the lines of the pickguards. They seem bumpy and lack fair curves.

...they always have been like this, ever since the "new" 4003 has been marketed...many forumites noted that already...seems like RIC likes it this way...

I have a 93 4003S that's NOT like that. I think it started in the mid to late 90s or the early 2000s
