Probably. I posted that for the visual of a P PU in a Rick, better known as a P-Rick.

Here's the altered 'DiMarzio P- bass / Bartolini jazz pup' Rickenbacker that was pictured earlier, on an original tune from an EP we did.
It's still a Ricky too me. But, it was an experiment, anyway.

I know I was supposed to be checking out the tone, but wow - I loved the song! Totally irreverent and impeccably played!

First off captain Bob, is that sound cloud song available to buy anywhere? It's ace, right up my street! Great playing and not helping with the P-Rick idea (shame on you jps ) I mean I could kinda ignore how good the one in the racer x guys video sounded because it was surrounded by that dreadful neo classical noise of a guitar and then you go on post that. I'm making one, end of story. Not helping at all lol

In fact none of you are now, I mean reminding me I'm also missing a hollow body option I've never even seen a fender like that before, a friend of mine has a gretsch that thankfully he's always been keen to lend for such occasions though. What makes it so heavy though? Short scale, hollow...should be feather light like a 330 is shouldn't it? And the mention of a stingray led to me looking on youtube at stingrays with flats. Push coming to shove isn't an altogether appalling prospect is it jps - I want one of those now as well

Rickybubba, I played one of the new BBs only the other week funnily enough, spotting a P pickup in the right place and all. What a bass too! Real solid, quality feel with a great range of tones - an almighty price to go with it too though, just under £2000. I didn't realise they had a history going back that far, I'd definitely own one in a shot. But on this occasion I fear only a f***** headstock look will do...otherwise I'm going to need to take some bookshelves down to hang all these basses!

Not for a longhorn though, that's crossing the line guys you boys might be able to pull that off but I resemble a weatherman remember!!

Thank God sloop_john_b is here to bring some P 'based' sanity to proceedings! Don't want to come off as too much of a brown noser here, honest but is there some rule that you have to be talented as well as own a Rick to be here because your photographs...wow, really wow. That page is almost nsfw lol I just own a Rick Tempting me with an actual guitar on sale now too...if HM Customs didn't insist on holding onto anything large for what seems like forever with no communication before then slapping a massive extra tax bill on top I'd be very tempted. As P's go, it's def a looker. The 50s look really appeals. Helping me realise I'm getting one with a maple board...part of the reason I don't get on with my P is the what seems like an unfinished rosewood board. I like a shiny, slippery neck a'la Rickenbacker. I'm going bass browsing tomorrow, no work hooray, seen a road worn P in the window of one place (kinda orangey salmon colour - really nice actually) so will definitely be giving that a try!

Rickenbastard, thanks for going to the effort for me, it's 5:15 in the morning here at moment but you've definitely given me something to muck around trying later, def going for a different sounding P to what I got on mine - a bit more JJ Burnel than JJamerson - and 9 times out of 10 that's the way I'm headed too! You're too kind. Thank you. That song was to be carried by the bass. As such, I think I overplayed. Believe it or not, I had Siberian Khatru in mind as to how I wanted it to flow. I had played the Yes tune in a former band. And, for some reason, the writing of 'Theres a Thing' bears that distinct memory with respect to bass guitar. I went thru a couple incarnations. That was recorded in one take. We were well rehearsed.....and we had no money to spare.

There's several more tunes on Soundcloud too. Some of the rehearsals feature the *********** Rick too. 'So Much Fun' does as I recall.
Anyway, I can mp3 'em to your email or send you one of the original EP's, should you have a record player. Just PM me. There is a FB page on that band too.

Right tool for the job. Key words! I've owned Ricks since '76, and own 4 now. I use them occasionally, but the music I play now requires the Motown sound frequently, and/or palm muting. As much as I love my Ricks, they're not capable of either need. I do have side projects that let me air out the Ricks... But the gig puts the food on the table. Can't hammer nails with a screwdriver...

Thanks Keith....and I still play with a pick. Those would have been Roto's back then too...RS66.

Not to stray too far of the OP topic. The bass would have been wide open on all pots, selector in the middle for both the Dimarzio P Bass and Bartolini Jazz pups. It was miked (Sunn 215 RH with a Sunn Model T head) and DI'd.
My idea for that bass (since I had 2 other 4001's) was to get a P or J sound while continuing with my preferred Rick platform. But, IMO it still sounded like a Rick for the most part. The work was accomplished by Dick Robinson and myself at The House of Guitars, in Rochester, NY.
The only HOG alumni from back then that I still stay in touch with are Andy Babuik and Greg Prevost (Chesterfield Kings). And, those two are not speaking.
When in town I visit the HOG owners, and Dick is still there working in his shop. Of course, Andy owns his own shop these days, in addition to playing with The Empty Hearts and writing books.

Hey Jeff, does the Snowglo have the same neck as the 4003?

I'll be honest and say I haven't laid hands on a new Yamaha in ages. I just know more about the mid 1980's ones as I grew up on those so to speak.

My first P bass influence as a very young teenager was JJ Burnel. Motown/Stax it ain't!

His bass tone was and still is a monster. 60's P, Rosewood board, Roto's and a pick? No problem!

To the best of my knowledge, yes. I do not have a current 4003 to make a direct comparison, only going by playing some recent ones at Sam Ash in the past few months.
